a natural hormone for sleep aid. It's not a sedative.

Only problem is there seems to be no consensus on what is an appropriate dose. I've read advice ranging from 1mg right up to 100mg. And it likely depends on the individual.

I got some 10mg tablets that you dissolve in your mouh before going to bed and they do seem to work sometimes, but other times I still get the dreaded insomnia, lying awake for hours

It's really only good at tricking your brain into thinking it's night time. Over the years I've noticed it really only works for jet lag or resetting sleep schedule or if you work graveyard shifts.

Also I've read doses over 3mg don't do anything. I've taken 50mg and felt absolutely nothing.

It's prescription only, but can be bought online easily enough, I've done so on many occasions. On prescription it's sold under the name Circadin and is 2mg.

Does jack shit for me, but then I have pretty bad insomnia, but works for my partner at 10mg.

I thought you could get melatonin from Holland and Barrett...maybe that was before the PSA shite.

Anyway I found it surprisingly effect at inducing a natural sleep. Didn't make me sleepy like benzos or even promethazine etc. but better than nothing if you're having reverse sleeping patterns. Won't do anything for helping sleep on stimulants or during withdrawal from opiates/benzos.

Made my mouth taste like a dog had shit in it in the middle of the night when I woke up in the morning.

I've been taking melatonin every evening for several years. My dose ranges from 3mg to 6mg depending on how stressed out I am-- usually just 3mg.
Definitely helps me fall asleep. Also enhances my dreaming, which I enjoy. It's like harmlessly tripping in bed every night. Some people report nightmares, but I've only had 2 or 3 bad dreams in 5 or so years.
I take it about an hour before bedtime. I generally feel well rested in the morning.

PS-- Here in the US it's available over the counter almost everywhere and is relatively inexpensive.

If you are not into strong pills melatonine is effective at dose range 5-10mg.Start working after a couple of minutes and last no more than hour. That is a period, when you can fall into sleep.Apart from that is excellent antioxidant. Its a good suplement for me.

Biovea UK (where you can get it from) is a legitimate and reputable company, but they send it from the USA.

However, as it's Prescription-only here, then who is in the wrong? Us for buying it or Biovea for selling it? Genuinely not sure :?

I did read one site that said if you take it too late or too high a dose it can actually have the opposite effect and you get poorer sleep or wake earlier. For most people melatonin levels start peaking after 10pm, but then I haven't had normal circadian sleep patterns for years. It probably varies for each individual.

I think it's the light hitting your eyes that supresses the production of Melatonin, which is why you can wake so damn early in summer

I bought a gram for a tenner from France. Just sort of guessed with tweezers evebtually. Found it highly effective, phenibut style sleep usually.

Sometimes though, id get a rebound and simply redose. Thats when i started using tweezers.

About 2mg under your tongue for 20-30 minutes, and make sure youre in bed when it starts kicking in.

Only OTC ive found effective apart from diphenhydramine, which is minging.

Watch out in high doses for a long time it will seriously mess with your ability to dream or reach REM state, I actually started using it to stop dreams. my blackouts were invading my dreams and the images were to much ,starting to work, downfall is without reaching REM state I never feel rested , but the trade off is worth it to me

In my experience and from a little understanding melatonin supplementation can be problematic for some people I personally would suggest 5htp which has virtually no downside where there is no actual allergy I'm personally allergic to both of the supplements and practically anything you could name but I do know that melatonin can actually be disruptive whereas 5htp can be purely beneficial in more cases than not and more cases than melatonin.

Also, 100 mg's melatonin?

I thought that was an alarmingly high dose and dangerous probably.

3-5 mg's I thought was an effective range?

According to studies cited by some, 0.5 is ideal. I've never heard of a 100mg dose until now. Most I've done is probably up to 10mg as I was building tolerance.

Thanks for just assuring me there. I still have a pot unused in kitchen.

But I was sure it was like 3-5 mg's which is relatively measurable by eye, barely by scale even, 0.5 mg measurements and gauge would take equipment and some concentration lol.

Sorry, just getting stoned at one hella unordinary time.

Half a mg of powder, by eye or (affordable) scale has got to be near impossible.

Would need compounding ideally.

I will check my pot ror curiosity. Could have sworn it was maybe 2, or 3-5 mg's. But I just can't see how on earth 0.5 mg of powder could reliably and consistently be measured as a nightly or daily supplement without some sort of evenly dissolved mixture or solution.

5 mg is the sweet spot for me. 10 mg is a little too much. It’s great because there is no rebound insomnia. You can take it for long periods of time and then quit cold turkey and still be able to sleep, at least on my experience.

tried it myself, seems to work well in conjunction with CBD provided its quiet enough (it wont help you sleep through noisy shithead neighbors)
as others have said lower dose is better than higher

Its also found in Sour Tart Cherry extract for anyone looking for a natural source
heres a study if you find those interesting : https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5617749/

Melatonin actually made my sleep worse. Tried it for a couple weeks a coupe years ago. Just seemed that although I was asleep I wasn't. Like I was conscious of everything going on around me and my thoughts. Strange. Always woke in worse shape than I was before going to "sleep".
