Triclosan... should I get it out of my mouth?

Triclosan is an antibacterial and antifungal agent, which you can find in a lot of your household products. Such as cans, makeup, plastic, even sippy cups for your kids, soaps (antibacterial), toothpaste, and the list goes on... currently the FDA is investigating whether this should be in our products after all the recent reports, which I'll post for you below.

So after seeing a dateline episode about this I really got worried... A lot of us have high levels of triclosan in our bodies. When the interviewer took out all the suspected items in her house..her triclosan levels dropped quickly (these were items she used daily). Anyways I already did away with antibacterial soap awhile ago because honestly we don't need it. Other than that, I think the over use of triclosan isn't good either especially with all this new research coming out.

Well my question is should I just throw out a new toothpaste I got? Its the first toothpaste in years that I noticed has triclosan in it. Now I'm not a paranoid person, but I really don't like the idea of this shit in my mouth... hmmm. What are your opinions on this whole subject?

Anyways I hope there isn't already a thread on this, but if there is I apologize.

I haven't used toothpaste in years. It's the brushing and flossing action that keeps teeth healthy. Make sure your internal health is good by getting enough mineral content in your diet, and taking vitamin D. If you do this, your teeth will stay healthy.

If you have build up that you need to get rid of, using baking soda for a short period is fine. Other than that, toothpaste is not necessary.

I honestly am not going to stop using toothpaste... I mean it doesn't hurt to use it. Anyways I am just more concerned about this chemical Triclosan in general. It doesn't just have to do about toothpaste in general.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I don't know what dateline was about but there's been a public call to curb Triclosan overuse for years to prevent the spread of resistant bacteria. It's a good first line of defense but there are already resistant strains of shit like Salmonella. I guess it's sort of like wearing a raincoat in acid rain then complaining it's full of holes when normal rain comes and you still want to stay dry. Unless you have a reason to be putting it in your mouth, I wouldn't.

Yeah, thank you. I honestly am just going to discontinue using it... its just crazy how many more daily products this chemical is in.

I use triclosan toothpaste. My understanding is that toothpaste is the only product that it really makes sense to add it too. Most of the other uses for it are questionable.

You don't know that. You have used it your entire life. You could feel better if you stopped using it. Since you have not (stopped), you can't know.

Even then, it may not be perceptible. Not trying to force the idea, just saying.

Eh I didn't post in the philosophy forum.
Don't have time to think about what if..
All I'm saying is I'm fine with continuing what I'm doing.
Just will not continue using a non-needed chemical.
