Misc Trazodone 50mg, what are they for?

Hey all, this is my 1st post so I apologize if I say something wrong. I acquired a bottle of 50mg Trazodone and want to know what its used for. I used the search engine and some posts said its for depression and others said for anxiety so I still dont know anything about it. Any clarification would be helpful, thanks for any responses
 
Trazadone has quite a complicated pharmacological profile. It is a serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitor at 5HT2a receptors, a partial agonist at 5HT2c receptors, an a-1 adrenergic antagonist and a weak antihistamine. It has pretty poor antidepressant action. It's sedative qualities probably come primarily from it's a-1 adrenergic blockade; this can also cause low blood pressure and dizziness. Some people find it is anxiolytic as well, probably related to it's serotonergic activity.

Most people use it for sleep/sedation rather than for treatment of depression or anxiety..
 
Lol, no I didnt buy them, a girl I gave a ride left them in the back of my car n I dont have her number to give them back. I really only know about opiates n benzos and just needed some info about these b4 I popped em. Glad I asked, thanx 4 the advice :)
 
Thanks effie, Im gona try one n see if I feel anything...are they anything like xanax or k-pins? In the sedation area, I mean??
 
They don't feel anything like xanax or klonopin- in the sedation area. I don't really know what I'd compare them to. I had a prescription for trazadone to treat anxiety/insomnia (~2007) and disliked it greatly. Made me tired (DID help me sleep) but in a sloppy way... not fun-sloppy. Also made my limbs feel like pins and needles... and heavy. These are nothing like benzos.
 
It's more of a zombified sedation rather than pleasant and relaxing like benzos..

Exactly, Trazadone isn't something you'll miss too much if you lose your prescription somewhere..
 
I did find it effective at times cause it just makes my mind totally blank. All I can think about is the blankness of my mind when I'm under the influence.

It's also used to treat PTSD at higher doses isn't it?

Oh YES - Beware OP: one side effect of Trazadone, although rare, is priapism. Can be serious. Unfortunately for me I suffered from this side effect once and, well, lemme just say that showing up at the ER with a magical boner that won't go away after more than four hours and COULD mean you lose your one eyed trouser snake IS NOT FUN :\
 
@tpdog, how much did u take 2 get the blank mind effect?? N I prolly wont have 2 worry 2 much about the 4hr boner issue, being as tho im a girl **smiles**
 
I'm prescribed 100mg for sleep. I used to have mild insomnia, they usually helped. I took one for the fist time in a few months the other day and it didn't do much, it was weird.
