i have heard lots of friend of a friend stories about US citizens being denied entry into canada for having various misdemeanors on their records. has anyone here (tried to?) visited canada with a criminal record?

i know that their tourism information site states that entry to can be denied. but i would like to know how likely that would be.

Not exactly sure but I know many rappers/musicians are denied entrance to Canada because of their history with the law. I guess it depends on how severe the offences are.

The immigration laws have changed. Now to go to Canada you need to have either a passport(or a N.America travel card), or an enhanced drivers license. I think most border states offer it. Good luck.

You need an enhanced license or passport to enter in the first place. There is definitely some truth in this, I'm right near Canada, and none of my friends with DUIs can get in, I know that much.

You just can walk across the border someplace...... they have towns where they have a spray painted line separating American land & Canada... i am sure people do it

i know you need a passport, i have that. several people in the group i am traveling have DUIs or misdemeanor pot possession charges.

animal_cookie, my guess is it's a no-go. The only things I have friends whom I saw not be allowed in with were pot and duis, sounds the same. Maybe someone from Canada who knows more about this will chime in?

Is there a certain amount of time (years) that you would be allowed entrance into Canada after a DUI or drug felony? I'd like to go there one day, but I would definitely be denied entry. Do they background check you right at the border or something? This shit fucking sucks.. there's got to be a statue of limitation type deal on it, no?

I have a misdemeanor and had no problem going to Montreal. I have an enhanced drivers license.

They didn't do a check on me, but I was with my parents.

They just asked for a passport or enhanced drivers license, where we were staying, how much money we had on us, and if we had any alcohol or tobacco on us.
