Social Justice Transgender and gender identity discussion

Why do you think you can change gender & become a woman or a man?

Gender is a social construct.

If I wake up tomorrow & decide I am born in the wrong body and really I am a dog

Species isn't.

Surgeries that help a person align their body with their mind in order to live a healthy and full life should be welcomed by everyone.

Should children be activists for adult issues? Of course, children are transgender too but it's up to adults to make the sort of society they can safely be themselves within. Or is it?

Exactly. It should have been up to adults to create a safe and inclusive environment for our children, but we failed. Unfortunately, with this issue, climate change, etc...children who should be busy being children are increasingly being forced to take up these causes on their own.

I don't think age should be a barrier to participate in society, whether you're 8, 38, or 88. Holding up a sign that basically says, "trans people are just people, you shouldn't be scared of us" I wouldn't consider that "political". If the sign said, "America was never Great...trans rights now...impeach trump" see, that's political.

I used to be convinced that a man can not become a woman. Impossible. Until I saw Caitlyn Jenner. Wow !! So feminine and pretty lmao

THIS 100%

The thing is I personally dont give a single toss what people do in reason, BUT what I cannot figure out is how someone born a man or born a woman can think by surgery they can change their gender.

If I woke up tomorrow & decided I was a dolphin I'd be locked up in a mental unit. Go figure folks..............

^ Privilege feels good, doesn't it? We got life EASY as cis genders don't we?

I know it's amazing, I got this new job yesterday. I went into the interview, and the boss just asked me, "Have you ever thought about having your penis removed?" I told him no, and I got hired on the spot! It really amazes me sometimes how many doors have opened for me in my life when I tell people that I actually want to keep my dick, incredible really lol. It really is quite the privlege to say the least.

Yeah ok...tell you what why dont you go try this theory out in a country like Saudi Arabia & see how longit lasts.

So because Saudi Arabia is more backwards than us, we should push back our own standards to meet theirs? I speak for liberal western society, you won't find a bigger critic of theocratic countries like Saudi Arabia than me.

Why don't you convince the Trannies. If you succeed, no more gender dysphoria. Cured.

Not that you care, but "trannies" is not acceptable in polite conversation these days. Regardless, your argument makes no sense. When I say that gender is a social construct, that means that society has determined which characteristics to assign to "men" and "women" over the years. This means that if you look at the change over 1000, 500, 100, 25, 10 years... you will see a much different illustration of these terms.

In contrast, biological sex remains the same. But ironically, when a person walks down the street, a random passerby doesn't ask to examine their genitals before they determine which pronoun to use. If a person who is biologically female is dressed as what society perceives as a man at that time, with a haircut that is perceived as masculine at that time, they are going to pass as male...not female.

Convincing a trans person that gender is a social construct will not alleviate their dysphoria. Convincing people like you hopefully someday will.

Mal3volent.....

I'm not sure why you were so offended by his post... it was quite polite :?

To anyone that is "transgender" what makes you think you are born in the wrong body?
I'm male, I look like a man, I have a penis etc & am quite happy "God" blessed me with all my limbs etc.

I'm not transgender, but just because you don't personally understand how someone could feel a certain way doesn't invalidate the fact that they feel that way. I'm heterosexual, I don't understand how anyone can find men sexually attractive. Yet most women and plenty of men do. I'm not sure whether you support homosexuality or not, but you have to admit it's a thing at least and that there are men legitimately attracted to men. It's not that big a leap to accept that some people feel like the opposite gender they were born as. I don't know why, my guess would be it has to do with hormone levels, at least in large part. I mean there are people born with both a penis and a vagina who are physically both genders. If that can happen, is it a stretch to believe that someone could be born a man and feel like a woman, or vice versa?

Holding up a sign that basically says, "trans people are just people, you shouldn't be scared of us" I wouldn't consider that "political".

Agreed. It's an "issue" that has been politicized but it's not political, it's about human rights.

Yeah ok...tell you what why dont you go try this theory out in a country like Saudi Arabia & see how longit lasts.

Saudi Arabia also stones women to death for showing their face or ankles, and kills homosexuals. Obviously it won't fly in Saudi Arabia... doesn't mean it has any bearing on reality (unless you live in Saudi Arabia).

What the hell?!!?!!?

He got to you too huh, that was a private PM mate & yeah I been drinking a bit.....maybe it was slack to say it now I look back but there is no need to all come hunting for me.
I'm outta here. You lot of nutcases are welcome to each other.

Sometimes the ideas of the ONA / O9A seem quite a decent thing when I read parts of BL.

What do you mean? I was responding to the post of yours that I quoted, where you flew off at mal in response to his polite attempt to answer your question...? No one's hunting you. I also tried to answer the question you asked in the same post, because I assumed you wanted someone to answer it, since you asked it.

No idea why you're so upset right now. I get that you don't think trans is a real thing, but we're just trying to have a discussion, no need to reference a group that kidnaps and sacrifices people for ritualistic purposes, it seems a bit excessive.

Rising above theocratic countries is also on my agenda.

it's really important to always challenge ourselves and keep pushing toward more and more inclusivity. More and more compassion. We have to or we risk becoming something not that far from a theocracy.

Yea man...great idea oh wow...cool...like for example when a bunch of guys beat a homosexual couple to death with a shovel, we gotta have compassion. Stop the hate. Those dudes were having some kind of phobia about homo...like maybe a homophobia...yea, that's a thing man, they was having a homophobia, and we've gotta be way more compassionate about that. Include these dudes, at your birthday party, at the gym, make them your friends with shovels. Diversity is our strength. Love trumps hate.

Compassion is not a virtue.

Yeah, compassion extends to them as well. Let them live out their lives in prison where hopefully they can reflect on what they've done and perhaps make peace with it one day. Life in a cell may not sound like much of a life, but it's better than the alternative. And more compassionate.

Maybe they'll live long enough to apologize to their own family for the shame and guilt they brought upon them.

no no no, prison is exclusion, we need more and more inclusion. Inclusivity is all the rage now.
Not that you care, but locking people into cages is not acceptable in polite society these days.

By affirming that there is a place for murderous homophobes in our society...prison...we are being inclusive.

Wow what a mess... In lieu of certain comments I'd just like to say while I don't agree with everything regarding some lgbt issues I have nothing against anyone being what they want to be. I just think it's a bit sketchy when children are involved in protesting things they might not fully understand yet.

You think she wrote that? Doesn't look like children's handwriting to me. And the sentiment is slightly too subtle for a child. I don't think adults should use children to make political points.

No I don't either. I think using your children as political weapons is disgusting. It's also presumptuous. It assumes your kids won't grow up to disagree with you.

I hate people doing it for any political argument, including ones I'd otherwise completely support. It's cheap and dishonest.
