Opioids Tramadol - Increasing pain relief from given dosage

My dad has Lupus, and takes Tramadol to manage the pain from the host of symptoms; it hardly gets the job done, and he's not the type to ask for more, or even really tell anyone. Is there anything he can do to make it more effective for him? I suggested WGFJ but he takes other medications that would interfere with.

Maybe find another doctor or get an RX for codeine.

You can't really potentiate tramadol as much as you'd like to. The best thing for him would be to tell the truth to his doc imo.

The only way to "potentiate" tramadol is by staggering doses ie. Instead of popping 200mgs at once take 4 50mg doses every 30 minutes. Tramadol converts into o-dt more efficiently this way however it's still tramadol and it likely won't solve the problem much. Why would they give out tramadol for lupis? Fuckhead doctors don't realize this stuff is even more addictive than most traditional opioids and most definately has a far worse side-effect profile. I second that you find another doctor or at least look into kratom. Kratom gives me way better pain relief and has a better risk/reward ratio, plus it's available online legally in most states. Perhaps have him take a small-ish dose of tramadol in the mornings and dose kratom throughout the day? Either way he should definately speak to his doctor about providing adequate pain relief, stories like this pester me.

Ps. IIRC correctly, WGF juice can actually decrease the amount of tramadol coverted to o-desmethyltramadol so it may work against you.

The D.E.A. is really crackin down hard here in the States lately, and scaring the shit out of doctors so they won't give out anything above Class 4. So the favorite drug of choice for doctors to hand out is Tramadol The best way to get your dad's pain under control is to take him to a pain management doc. So if his current doc won't do anything more for his pain ...then.! Hope things get better for your dad.

All you can really do if you don't like a medication is either ask the doctor for something different or get a second opinion.

I had one pain clinic refuse to look at my charts because I was about 25 at the time and they said I was too young for pain medication. I went to another doctor and got some medication. After a while I was not happy with my dose, so I went to another doctor who doubled my dose.

So yeah a second opinion can help if you feel like the medication you are getting isn't working.

Your father needs to tell the doctor he's in pain asap......Tramadol helps some people but it didn't do anything for my back pain. Codeine IMO is so much better, than hydrocodone.

It's really hard to talk to him about it, it's not something he's comfortable with, asking for help; I'll tell him about staggering doses though, thanks.

I want to give him my weed stash or SOMETHING but, that's not him.

I just don't want to get my dad hooked on them, that's why he doesn't talk to the doctor about something else, they told him it's non addictive, or less addictive I think. He has the iron will of a god though, after his first wife (before my birth), he quit daily coke cold turkey. So I'm not sure where it falls now, because pain fucks up your mind.

Marijuana has been known to work wonders for Lupus....also, ibuprofen, but that's fairly obvious...If he needs stronger opiates though, he needs stronger opiates, fuck the DEA!

Its shameful that in this misguided quest the government has to "save people from themselves", or whatever the fuck it is, people with major medical issues should be made to suffer!

I think if people, addicts included, had access to as many opiates as they wanted/needed, overdoses would actually go down! As it stands, it's kind of like the cigarette smoker who chain smokes three before going to a movie...the fear of not having "enough" causes people to use "too much"!!
