I hope it is alright to revive this thread for my question... I have tried to get answers in other sections and found none and the sheer amount of information on this forum is really motivating so I thought I would try here.

1. I had a reaction after a weekend involving 300mg tramadol (once a day for three days), 350 mg SOMA, 50mg Demerol (taken only on friday, 1st day), and a lot of marijuana... after the third day i took the 300mg trams and a 350 SOMA that were fine the first two days and everything went to hell. Got an intense electric feeling, dilated eyes, insane pressure behind the eyes, lsd like sensations and visual disturbances, shaking, confusion, numbness, basically blacked out (though the benzos i took to try and neuroprotect the craziness in my head may have been more responsible for the blackout). Came to later that night and went to the ER. What's weird is that I felt very 'off and awful' for a few days after, but it wasn't until the fourth day that my nightly weed bowl caused a recurrence of symptoms. insane heart rate, fully dilated eyes, sensory disturbances, confusion, thought i was going to die. For the next month I had insane anxiety and fear... it was another world and I am stunned I didn't fuck up my job.

Since then i cut out almost all scripts, and after a 5 or so weeks I felt mostly recovered and decided to take amoxicillin for a recurring sore throat i was having (in retrospect likely was due to weed withdrawal) and had an insane recurrence of symptoms. Seemed to have severely delayed my recovery. I am now two and a half months in and feel maybe 60% recovered. Anxiety is mostly gone unless I get brief symptoms. All that is left is insane drug sensitivity, occasional vision changes, and a nagging buzz in my head (sometimes accompanied by fatigue or restlessness). I mean crazy drug sensitivity, even a few weeks ago one stool softener dilated my eyes and drove me to take a benzo 8 hours later to fight off confusion, panic, and other symptoms. I have had severe sensitivity to everything but benzos (even friggin aspartame, zicam zinc losenges, ambien, claritin, stool softener, alcohol, caffeine). Even my ativan makes me feel relaxed, but pupils dilate a little and eyes grey on the comeup. A TINY dose like .125mg is all I can dream of handling for social situations. Does this sound like the long SS recoveries in this thread or something else?

2. Anyone who has encountered toxicity for SSRI, SNRI, Seratonergic drugs like MDMA or what have you... Can you please share your story, symptoms, and recovery timetable? How long did it take to be in the clear? I at times feel i am much better, but then have symptoms from a zinc tablet or a diet coke or something stupid; then i question whether ill ever recover, and if i'll have to live a life as the wordls biggest tee-totaler. I of course am never taking a re-uptake drug again... but I miss hitting up the bars with my friends and being able to drink a red bull without traveling off to some psychedelic hellscape.

3. To those in recovery... were you ever able to smoke the way you used to (ie not worrying about intake causing symptoms). We're you able to drink, smoke, resume your old habits without symptoms? If so how long did it take? If not... how are you doing now?

Many thanks for your replies... I realize I am newbie on here but I am so worried about this stuff. From what i can tell Blers may know more about this than my doc, who insists that i just have an anxiety disorder (i have had anxiety all my life... this is chemical/biological and im sure of it).

Stop mixing tramadol and demerol especially.

This is the recipe for the perfect seizures.

Soma is also very wishy-washy in this respect too.

If this persist please have someone take you or call an ambulance to go to the hospital.

Do not drive in this ccondition. You could have a syncope and/or have a seizure.

I have not taken any of these chemicals in two months, and I admit it was very stupid to combine them. I had no idea that SOMA or Demerol had serotonin activity at the time. I will never take Demerol or Tramadol again in my life. Might even avoid SOMA forever too (though I do miss it... it was rx'd for TMJ pain and is very helpful there).

Two and a half months out I am having insane chemical sensitivity, however. I tried starting on Zicam zinc tablets for a cold yesterday and even after the second dose could feel some symptoms (within 15 mins I felt very 'hot' all over, a panicky feel, disassociated, worst of it last for hour or two)... Very minor symptoms (slightly larger pupils, head pressure, buzzing) have come and gone today. Anyone experienced something similar (with any drug??). I hate being afraid to take vitamins or drink soda.

Have you been thoroughly checked out?

If not do so. It is of very limited good in these cases to follow a forum.

We can barely even suggest things to you for things like this as it is vauge what is happening to you?

Yeah IMO you absolutely need to be checked out by a doctor. These symptoms you're describing aren't normal at all. Like Psyc J said, this sounds like it could potentially lead to a seizure. Best of luck.

Unless, are you going through a benzo withdrawal? Or any kind of withdrawal for that matter? If you stopped your SSRI's cold turkey that may have something to do with it too..

Once when i ran out of my opiates of choice and didn't even have codeine to hold me over i mixed 300mg's of tramadol (i crushed up a time release one) and took the 100mg's of Demerol that i had tucked away for a occasion on which i might need it. At the time i realized how dangerous the mix was but i figured that since i was prescribed 6mg's of clonazepam a day and was prescribed 200mg's of lamotrigine and over 2 grams of gabapentin a day as well that 3 different anti-convulsants would keep me safe from a seizure anyway. Though they wouldn't do anything against serotonin syndrome.

Both Demerol and tramadol can cause nasty side effects not associated with other opioid's. Demerol is perhaps not as bad as tram for drug interactions but you really have to watch it all the same and i'm glad that doctors no longer use it as a first line opioid for moderate to severe pain as oxycodone, morphine and dilaudid are much safer then Demerol. Many doctors are absolutly clueless as to these dangers surrounding Demerol and tramadol which is rather scary to say the least. Demerol (meperidine/pethidine) can cause serotonin syndrome when taken with some anti-depressants and as tramadol has SNRI properties this could very well be why you got serotonin syndrome. Taking either Demerol or Tramadol while taking a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, a serotonin enhancer or if you are looking to die a horrible almost certain death a MAOI is rather dangerous to say the very least and should be avoided.

I have gotten a few bad reactions from Demerol over the years such as going completely manic and punched abunch of holes in the wall when i took it while on amitriptyline and when i went through a bottle of 60 50mg tablets in about a week and started to have tremors, twitches and mild deliriant type hallucinations. Demerol does have some anti-cholinergic effects hence it's unique toxicity. The only thing that prevented me from having a seizure was the clonazepam and divalproex (epival. depakote) i was on at the time. Though it would have done fuck all for serotonin syndrome besides help the agitation. Cyproheptadine is i believe the main drug used to treat serotonin syndrome though i have read that other serotonin antagonists such as some anti-psychotic drugs such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine,Largactil) and olanzapine (zyprexa) are also used. I have also had hypomanic and manic reactions to tramadol which makes sense as i don't get along well with SNRI's.

My advise would be to go see a doctor ASAP to get everything checked out. You could be experiencing bad anxiety and i know when i had really bad anxiety that i had some of the same symptoms you are describing. I felt like i was going completely psychotic and having heart attacks as well when i had severe untreated anxiety. Also if you have stopped taking any drugs suddenly after being on them abit that could explain it to.

I have had an mmri and an eeg... Both of which were negative. No seizure activity found despite feeling agonized during the strobe test. I was getting crazy closed eye visuals and was sure that they would find something but no dice...

Is there any other test i should get?? It seems like its gradually gotten better since the onset...

My gdoc guesses that it is anxiety but the way i react to chemicals is not like any anxiety ive had before... From what I have read my symptoms sound incredibly similar to people to people who suffered adverse reactions from ecstasy, be it SS or otherwise. I have withdrawn from regular xanax use so I know what anxiety feels like... At this point, most of the derealization and anxiety is manageable (or easily ignored) so long as I watch what I put in my body. Substances that I didn't even consider, like aspartame, caused a bad but comparably mild resurgence of symptoms for about 30 mins after chugging a diet coke. Anxiety was severe for first month or month and a half... it is mostly gone now unless i inadvertently ingest a chemical (been drug free, im talking vitamins or supplements or caffeine on accident) that causes symptoms and confusion to return.

I understand that everyone is different and that nobody on a thread can understand what I am going through, but after an MMRI and EEG that all returned normal signals I'm not sure what to do. I'm sure my friends and family are tried of hearing about it, so hear I am. Would be great to hear from people who suffered adverse drug reactions, though...

The hell? How is that helpful?

I presume you are trying to suggest that SS is too severe for what i had, but each case is different. All i know is that i had an agonizing experience after combining multiple ssri and seratonergic drugs and that recovery has been slow. At peak severity, i had every symptom on the ss checklist; at the time i thought it was a stroke or seizure. BP and heart rate was elevated and irregular for weeks afterward. Im asking for advice and anecdotes, not for you to show off your ability to copy paste documents.

Can't find that stuff on google...it'll just come back to this page.

Yup copy n paste

Ur post is too see through for me
