Tramadol Causing Vertigo?

Is it possible that me taking Tramadol caused some vertigo/dizzy like spells. I have had vertigo before for a couple of days 4 years ago but I wasnt taking pain meds back then. I dont usually take Trams for pain but decided to take 50mgs.......I thought it gave me vertigo like a month ago so I stopped taking them & the dizzy spells went away.

Took 50mgs for the 1st time since a month ago & the feeling of vertigo kicked in about 1 hour after ingesting........weird!

It's never happened to me, but tramadol can easily make you sick or throw off your equilibrium due to the dirtyness of the drug. The drug hits so many different receptors, I'm guessing it's the NRI or acetylcholinergenic properties causing this, as serotonin actually relieves vertigo.

You should take that Kratom that you were saving but never took, did you end up taking it? Also, weren't you on Norcos?

I am still on Norcos but took some Tramadol since I was out of Norcos for a couple days..........I still have that Kratom, LoL!

I had two experiences of passing out/dizzy/fainting when on high-ish dose tramadol with hydrocdone. Both times woke up with oxygen mask on my face from paramedics!

I had a lot of mental instability issues while I was on Tramadol for back pain... Headaches, weight loss / gain (all over the place.. delta of 10lbs which is a lot for me), rage like ya can't believe, and ugh the feeling of being put in a box and packaged by a chemical.

It racked my brain HARD. Tramadol is rubbish unless an SNRI is effective for the patient as well as pitifully mild opiate analgesia.

Tramadol was hell for me . I suffered an accident and was prescribed tramadol (without paracetamol) , before I knew it I was popping 10 - 50 mg caps at once , and at the height of my addiction I was taking up to 1000 - 1500 mg in liquid at once! Had about 3 seizures . Finally I went to rehab and they put me on methadone for a while . People think tramadol by being weak is not addictive or danger free.. is but its withdrawal can be nasty and somewhat long (although theres no comparison to methadone hell, nor heroin , its nasty nonetheless when youre taking high doses of it), in part because of its role with serotonin . Never had any vertigo though.

Yeah, Tramadol has some pretty nasty side effects, especially at higher doses. I never took more than 125mg in a day, and still, at that dose, I could go from being in a fantastic mood to the most irritated and mean person in a matter of minutes. I had a very low threshold for bullshit on the stuff, which is strange considering I'm normally a very laid back type of guy.

I could only imagine the side effects at the more regular rec doses of 300-400mg/day.

The only reason I love it is due to my suspected CYP2D6 polymorphism, which makes it a very strong opioid after it is converted in my liver. Your liver enzymes basically either make tramadol a useless opioid, or a fantastic and long-lasting (O-Des has a half-life of 9h) one. And if no one is around to mess up my high, the serotonin effects are actually a bit enjoyable at doses of <100mg, especially with some electronic music and a bit of dancing.

This is rare, though, and for most people, tramadol is not worth the trouble, but for others, like me, 125mg has my pupils pinned for 9-12 hours.

400mg/day is what appears to be the accepted dose at which the seizure threshold is significantly lowered and thus problems increase exponentially.

Tramadol does effect everyone differently........but it is what it is for me, I wont be touching this stuff again. Thing is, ive taken it before off & on for about 8 months but this weird effect of vertigo started about a month ago. It must effect the nervous system in different ways for everyone.

I love o-desmethyltramadol ergic, I wish my liver enzymes were like yours ;)

Dizziness is a recognised side effect of tramadol (list of side effects here) and although 50mgs is a low dose, as others have said tramadol's pharmacology is complex and people vary widely in their responses to it.

I just remembered that before the seizure I experienced some vertigo ..

theres no doubt in my mind that what youre experiencing is tramadol related.

If youre going to do opiates , theres better things out there . tramadol can cause serotonin syndrome (only painkiller that im aware produces this) and " repeated use alters reward pathways in the brain. " shitty drug to abuse if you ask me , if taken how it is presciribed one shouldnt have this problems.

^ Pethidine/meperidine is serotonergic too, and oxycodone very mildly I believe, but tramadol is by far the commonest offender in terms of serotonin syndrome secondary to painkillers.

Do you have a source for "repeated use alters reward pathways in the brain"? I'm not doubting you at all, I'm just interested to read more about that :)

Yes! Ive only taken tramadol 3 times and each time it gave me really bad vertigo and it was only low doses. I would not take it again because of it.
