Tramadol and Marijuana pain relief question.

Let me start by saying that tramacet has changed my everyday life greatly in a positive way. I have fairly significant thoracolumbar scoliosis which results in very painful back muscles and slight abdomen pain from my ribcage pushing into it. My Dr prescribes me a good quantity for the pain (37.5/350 quality). I started taking two in the am and two in the evening in January (4 or so months ago). The surprising thing is that i am still taking the same amount and have good pain relief during the day. This leads me to believe that the untreated depression i was suffering from resulted in much worse pain, and also the pain caused depression. Anyways i am very happy with this "opiate". I like to vaporize marijuana at night time and when i do my pain instantly comes back, almost like it negates the effects of tramacet. Does anyone have any ideas of why this happens because i like the relaxing and entertaining effects of marijuana at night time but its getting to the point where the pain is not worth it.

I have scoliosis, spinal stenosis & 2 bulging discs & weed makes my pain worse as well..........just the way it is. Also, you're right about depression, it works both ways as you described. Im assuming Tramadol helps you out with the depression a bit.........& depression definitely makes your pain worse. Depression can cause all kinds of physical pain.

^^I agree w/all of that...
IME w/in the last few years..

I'm from the US..so smoking a bowl used to help with at least my perception of pain..
Something's changed now...what I don't know..
but it seems to intensify my pain perception...
as well as anxiety..
It may very well be..that I've just completely gone off the deep end!
The only physical ailment to which smoking now helps with..is belly issues..
It's just the gold standard as far as that goes.

OP .. be happy you are one who finds relief from tramadol!
as so many don't.

Personally, if having the choice between pain relief and recreation..
I'd go for lack of hurt each and every time..

Hurt and I are enemies..

but lack of hurt plus good times...ahhh..what could be better?

Someone will most definitely come along here with a real answer to your why questions...
I'm sure of it.

I have chronic/relapsing lyme disease which causes me a great deal of lower back pain and joint discomfort at the age of 24. I actually use the same regimen as OP to treat my chronic pain and it has worked great.

MJ seems to make symptoms "flare up". That doesn't mean they are flaring up, I believe I am just "blazed" and focusing/mentally aware of my pain. It's great for nausea associated with high doses of antibiotics, sleep, and depression though..

Weed makes me focus on the pain as well, like it multiplies it in my mind by 100.........Weed is terrible for depression for me........puts me in more of a depressive state.

Because of the abundance of medical marijuana clinics in california, there has been a turn towards lab testing the marijuana for THC/CBD percentages. Now I have found that while high THC strains can make me focus on the pain more, the buds high in CBD for tend to have an increased ability to reduce pain and potentiate my opioid painkillers strength. I believe there are ways now to see which strains are higher in CBD vs THC and while some may find the higher THC buds better for pain I myself have found the higher CBD strains better in assisting with pain relief.

Just my .02

tramadol works very good with weed i highly doubt it would not help your pain and definitly not make it worse the weed just kicks in the tramadol harder and increases euphoria maybe just dont smoke to much weed but defintly smoke some to get the full potential of your painkiller thats the way i look at it anyway

shit maybe just up your tramadol dose when you smoke if it makes you focus more on the pain or somthin but tramadol and some herb is great at high doses of each ya

I've been very careful not to increase my intake of tramadol, so as to not get to dependent so taking more when I vaporize isn't a safe option for me. Thanks for the replies, good to know some people know what im talking about and experiences it as well. One thing i forgot to mention is that when i get high, it seems like i can crack my actual spine and tense muscles MUCH easier, don't know whats up with that. Guess there isn't a real answer as to why weed makes this type of pain worse and seems to negate the serotonin/pain relieving functions of tramacet (for me at least).

it might be all in your head because your so baked

yeah...I'm pretty sure that's what most on this thread are saying..

if the pain is somewhat under control ...then you smoke..
then it's worse..
well..then it's probably what you've just put into your lungs..going to your head. ;)

We're all different..and what works for one..doesn't necessarily work for another..

But OP...your issue w/thc is a common one...
muscle relaxers are an option...depending on your dr. of course.

good luck!

Sorry for bumping this thread cause it's been so long. I suffer from fibromyalgia, depression, etc. I notice when I get REALLY baked the pain is a lot worse. When I'm high and not super high and it's just right for me, I enjoy it. I definitely feel odd sensations cause I'm always in pain, and I'm sure your mind amplifies it cause I feel like death when I'm baked on the stuff, 20-30 minutes and a sofa with something awesome to watch usually takes it away. Everything is in your mind, even pain. However just because it's in your mind doesn't mean your experiencing it. Everything that you do is in your mind, and it's what picks up pain and can amplify it if you're wired wrong.
