I quickly discovered I couldn’t take codeine with any other CNS depressants as it labors my breathing in a very concerning way. I can take it by itself and be fine, albeit slower breathing than even high doses of other combined depressants. Even lowish doses is enough to slow it enough(in combo with other drugs) to be alarming. As Coffeeshroom said, I think more information is needed before we can advise on "the best way" to take tramadol and codeine. The best way will be different depending on your tolerance (if any) to opiates/opioids and your situation overall (e.g. are you taking any meds or drugs? are you wanting to get high or looking for relief? and so on).
Although I've taken loads of each of those substances, I don't think I've ever taken them both at the same time. Different people have quite different reactions to those drugs, especially with tramadol.
Give us a little background so we can help you more effectively!
I actually forgot about my friends reaction to his first and only time taking codeine. I was always “generous but stingy”, when I could afford to be anyway lol, so I know I didn’t give him a whole lot but definitely enough for a first timer to get high on. He was good for maybe an hour until he started complaining about how itchy he was and kinda started to bug out a bit. I thought he was just being a bitch until I watched these huge welts visibly form in front of my eyes on his arms and neck. It looked so fuckin gross lol. Dude was freaking the fuck out and I told him we had to call somebody, cause I’d never seen anything like that before and it was making me freak out a bit. I didn’t think it was an OD but was concerned about his well being, so I made our other buddy call his grandma and then I ditched the fuck out to avoid getting my ass in trouble.Yeah codeine can be a weird one. I used to do lots of CWEs back when I had low/no tolerance to opiates and sometimes I'd get some of the expected histamine responses, but it'd mostly just be a little bit of itching. It didn't seem to matter much what the dose was - I'd either get some effects or I wouldn't.
However, over the years I found I couldn't use it at all anymore because I would consistently get horrendous skin-related effects, like very red skin around the chest and neck, and these kind of welts that looked like I'd been attacked by a gang of enormous mosquitoes. In every case I'd taken diphenhydramine beforehand, but it didn't seem to help. This just started happening out of nowhere after 3 or 4 years of use prior without issue.
So no more codeine for me after that.
Codeine has a limited desirable effect in relation to other opiates/opioids but it can have some hefty side effects (histamine reactions, depressed breathing as mentioned above, stomach discomfort, etc).
I advise you don’t tell your doctor that you’re going to get them from a dealer if you won’t prescribe, because he’ll probably just blacklist you, which will make it very difficult for you to get any controlled meds in the future.Love tramadol 100's, have been taking them for years. great mood, energy but now since I'm taking an SSRI get real uncomfortable feelings (serotonin syndrome). Even if you skip a day or two of seri's it's still in your system. Tram develops tolerance very quickly and the withdrawal will put you in bed for a while. I'm telling my pain doc I need Vicodin, no interactions and hydrocodone doesn't scare them as much as oxy. If he says no, I'll tell him getting it from my dealer.
Ask him about tapentadol, no serotonine problem just added NRI and opioid. 100mg = 20-30mg Oxy. Its very effective.Love tramadol 100's, have been taking them for years. great mood, energy but now since I'm taking an SSRI get real uncomfortable feelings (serotonin syndrome).
