does anyone know where one could procure one of those blue (or any colour) tourniquet that nurses use in the hospital to tie off before an IV shot. I can't seem to get belts to tighten up on my forearm since I've just recently started shooting up in the big vein that runs between my index finger and thumb. the tourniquet works wonders, but after a while, they start to tear like an inch at a time from me having to hold one end in my teeth while trying it up. so after a while they get to be too short. so aside from stealing them when I have hospital visits, I'd like to get a few of them.

are these available at like walgreens or anything?

My buddy has gotten them from needle exchanges before. Also, if you do a quick google search you should be able to find a place to order them online.

just get a shoe lace. tie one end back onto the string to make a balloon on a string or a "noose" shape. take the other end and thread it thru the loop and stick your arm thru and pull it tight. sometimes it helps to loop the string back around your arm a few times. then just hold the end with your teeth while u shoot to keep it tight and let go with your teeth when your ready. that's what I've always used and it works like a charm and is readily available. hope that helps!

yes, I know all the tricks to making a touniquet from household objects, but nothing works as good as the blue rubber hospital things on my forearm since I am currently using the vein between thumb and index finger.

I know I've seen them on the little carts that they wheel up to me when I go in for my chemotherapy, so maybe I'll have to steal one off of those carts.

The closest thing if you cant find those would be those long balloons you get for kids parties. Thats what I used to use. Best thing is you can get a whole bag of um for a dollar at the $1 store!

wow, thats a good idea.

finally, someone comes up with something extremely useful.

I'm gonna go ahead and suggest everyone do that, its seriously so much easier to use than a belt, because I know a lot of you don't loosen the tourniquet cause its hard to do with a belt and keep the rig in the spot you want it at.

the needle exchange here is 30 mins away, open for an hour early morning on like tuesdays I think, and I have no way there.

cryan gave me an extremely good idea. you think walgreens carries those kind of balloons? do you know what those kind of balloons are called?

volp, thanks for the links, checking them out now.

your best alternative is to take an old bike tire (or new if you prefer) and make it into a tourniquet, i know your looking for the real deal but sometimes they just arent availalbe and you dont want to wait for one online. anyways i've heard shredding/slicing/cutting a bike tire into the desired tourniquet is the best way to go.

bike tire could work, but right now I still think the long animal making balloons has been the best idea. they're ready to go.

thanks everyone for the suggestions though, keep them coming if you can come up with something else original. nothing that I have to tie, or untie.

like with the rubber tourniqet, I just wrap around my arm and tuck one end under the tight part, to losen I just pull on the end tucked underneath and it pops right off without my rig flopping all over the place and falling out of vein.
