wow. my brother has a copy. does it really work?

man, i wish i put the time in to that trilogy back in my offguts daze.

it depends on your definition of 'work'. :)

i'm not suggesting anything beyond a nice alternative soundtrack which fits the visual imagery, in my opinion, very well. i've watched it straight and stoned and enjoyed it in both states...

okay, it's been a while, and i thought i'd do this again - i've seen a whole bunch of new films, and reconsidered on some others. all of these, again, are films i've given ten-out-of-ten to (something i don't do often - i've got about six hundred and twenty total films on my list...only a few with ten :)).

[edit: the films marked in red are those which reside in the imdb top 250 as of today's date :)]

belle de jour
edward scissorhands
le fabuleux destin d'amélie poulain
(amelie)
fight club
full metal jacket
lost in translation
mulholland drive
requiem for a dream
se7en
twelve monkeys
the usual suspects

yume
(dreams)

also, alphaville, rope, sympathy for the devil, and lolita (lyne, 1997) are *damn* close...sitting on nine :)

well here's me again, my imdb 10s:

All About Eve (1950) 10 8.4
Belle de jour (1967) 10 7.7
Cut (2005/I) 10 8.7
Do the Right Thing (1989) 10 7.7
Donnie Darko (2001) 10 8.3
Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Le (2001) 10 8.6
Fight Club (1999) 10 8.6
Flowergirl (1999) 10 5.9
Full Metal Jacket (1987) 10 8.2
Lost in Translation (2003) 10 7.9
Mépris, Le (1963) 10 7.7
Mulholland Dr. (2001) 10 7.9
Pulp Fiction (1994) 10 8.8
The Virgin Suicides (1999) 10 7.2
Yume (1990) 10 7.6

looks like i dropped a few, and added some too. i'm happy with that list: almost all of them i could watch on infinite repeat. i think i've seen most of them - bar, say, cut, and flowergirl (both shorts) and yume (translation: dreams, by kurosawa; it's hard to find) more than four or five times.

and i want to watch them all again.

i'm curious: how many people have read eugenides' book of virgin suicides? i've tried to track it down but been so far unsuccessful. it's one of those "i'll only buy it if i see it" things for me. i want to read it because i'm told it's brill and i obviously adore the film, but i'm half-worried that it'll ruin it. thoughts?
