By legal, I mean its legal to have the whole plant. If doing an extraction is a gray area then go ahead and post it. Methods that require only basic kitchen synths are welcome to, but anything more complex is out.

I am just curious about peoples perception of what still legal plants are the most enjoyable and the most interesting.

I will post my answers a little bit later.

Kratom
Mescaline (If this counts - the cactus is legal and requires no complex extraction)
Valerian Root

That's all I can think of =)

Kratom and Mescaline are definitely candidates for top 5.

The LSA containing seeds might also make that list. I hear there is a kitchen method for a synthesis by brewing them in wine.....it doesnt make LSD but makes some other analogs I guess. I have never tried it.

I hear there are some kitchen methods for brewing up the oils found in sassafras and sweet flag...I dont believe the result is anything outright banned even....Its a little less interesting and more likely to cause tachycardia and high BP, but its still worth mentioning. A conversion takes place in the liver. We used to use liver samples in test tubes in class.

Khat is legal some places....not here unfortunately.

Betel nut is enjoyed by some people.
Amanitas are definitely interesting and trippy....I hesitate to nominate them for top 5 just because they are hardly enjoyable. They are not exactly euphoric, but they do offer a new perspective :)

Valarian, Kava, Blue Lotus, Mulungu.....These are all mildy interesting, but nothing mind blowing. Mulungu is pretty useful for anxiety.

The individual ingredients for Ayahuasca are legal most places....One of the most powerful drugs you will ever take. I dont see it as being very addictive or having much potential for abuse though....Its not a pleasure drug and I doubt most people will be chasing that high.

Salvia is worth noting. Its pretty powerful. Like Ayahuasca, its not especially 'fun' but it is a potent tool for altering your consciousness.

Ephedra is still a pretty decent stimulant...Use caution though.

Kava goes underrated by most, as the right product needs to be bought.

Don't buy kava in a store. It takes too much to get high. But if you look online at some kava specialty stores, you will find the better grades of kava. Heavy doses lead to a profound GABA experience that nothing else can match. Feels way cleaner than alcohol. No physical hangover. Does not cloud the mind. Thinking is highly lubricated.

Periwinkle contains Ibogaine?!!!

That is definitely interesting. I wonder how difficult extraction would be. I understand the plant itself can be a little toxic. I also heard it has anti-cancer properties.

This mans got it.

I have a really potent extract of Kava made by Planetary formulas. Its in tincture form but its not just Kava soaked in alcohol. Its the real thing and it works pretty well.

Kratom,
morphine via poppy pod (legal if intended for decorative use)
codeine via CWE from otc tylenol #1 (natural, again is a product of poppies)
ethyl alcohol (lol it is legal, natural and a drug)
scopolamine...its interesting, but not euphoric

Ololiuqui, kratom, kava, San Pedro/Peruvian Torch, and Psychotria colorata (potentially).

It's dopaminergic (MAO-B inhibitor) as well as GABAergic. I'm sure that helps. 8)

Uh, sassafras contains safrole, the precursor to MDMA. Something tells me MDMA's just a little illegal. Also the process involves preparing palladium chloride as a catalyst, as well as reduction with mercury -- not easy!

Periwinkle contains Ibogaine?!!!

Madagascar periwinkle != common periwinkle.

I was not talking about producing MDMA. What I heard however is that small amounts of MDA are produced in the liver as a metabolite when ingested.....there is a ceiling though since its a metabolite, and it can also be toxic to take too much. My understanding is that some interesting byproducts can be produced through a mysterious fermentation process which is entirely kitchen grade tek.

I was gonna say Poppies because I thought they were legal if you buy them for "ornamental" purposes. I guess any high that good (good for me anyway, feels like morphine to me, but a little better) is practically guaranteed to be illegal.

I'm a big fan of Sceletium Tortuosum aka Channa (Kanna).
Kava, Kratom, thats about all I can think of legally that I'd do right now, lol.

In the UK you can have them for ornamental purposes. In the US any part of a somniferum poppy is 100% illegal and possibly a felony...However, that law is almost never enforced just for having a few poppies in your garden, and many cops dont even know that having them is illegal since they are so common.

However, Setegerum poppies contain small amounts of alkaloids and are not controlled. The yield is smaller and the pods are smaller and the latex is weaker, but you get more pods and they are not directed related to somnis.....they have double the number of chromosomes. They are not even arguably a sub-species, like sativa vs indica.
