I been using listerine for a years now and colgate total and recently converted from oral b toothbrushes to colgate. For those out there who use meth and care about teeth and bad breathe colgate savacol antiseptic mouth and throat rinse keeps your teeth free from infection after a binge. I realised you also have to brush your tongue and underneath it as well. If you have infected tooth you can always buy thick ripple pure cotton wool from woolworths unfortunately they only come in homebrand. Dip it in Savacol and place the wool in the area's on infected teeth and bite then let it absorb then rinse until you see less acid when rinsing. Just a quick question is it better to brush first or use the mouth was first?

Just gotta say...when anything related to your teeth is infected you gotta run to the dentist. My mom recently had a really young guy die due to sepsis that started from an infected tooth.

I don't know man, if a drug is infecting your teeth it may be time to stop using it or switch to another drug. That just sounds pure nasty.

But as far as dental care. Brush then mouth wash. Though I think it's all a matter of personal opinion and preference.

Not sure if this is the best forum for this, though dental hygeine is definitely something to be mindful of if indulging in any substances.

Healthy living might get you more responses, though no one here is more versed on the subject than Busty :)

i would not recomend you use "colgate savacol antiseptic mouth and throat rinse" and stick with the traditional ones such as "listerine" or "colgate plax" as savacol contains chlorohexdine? an antibacterial, most dentists would tell you to use that if something such as listerine or plax doesnt work. if you are using savacol now, i will gurantee the bacterium in your mouth will start to become resistant to that, if any larger outbreak occurs your gona need to have stronger antibiotics which means a costly dentist appointment.

if you really get a infection that wont go away, try getting one of these at a chemist. its a syringe but it has a narrow plastic tip built in, monoject (see photo) suck up some either savacol or mouth rinse that contains hydrogen peroxide and put the tip where your tooth and gum meet but dont ram it up under your gum. then squirt the fluid in. it may not look like anything is going up there, but there will be. (hydrogen peroxide introduces oxygen into the space where not much oxygen is, killing the anaerobic bacteria which causes damage, and well savacol has antibacterial in it) also try using alcohol free mouth wash, as it tends to dry out your mouth even more.

Floss, brush then rinse or brush, floss then rinse. no point rinsing if there is still bits of food in mouth.

anyway do you know why you get bad infections? its because meth dehydrates the crap outta you. salvia in your mouth acts as bacterial defense. when you get on the meth, salvia dries up, the bad bacteria find a oppontuinity and grow. best way is to stay hydrated during a binge and chew sugar free gum. avoid alcohol as it usually contains sugars + alcohol also dehydrates the crap outta ya.

Last year I had full blown septic shock, liver and kindey failure, heart infected as well as the standard blood as with sepsis.

Saved by Stage 3 clinical study of Xigris, saved my life.

^ Listen to that, and live by it. If you can keep away the dry mouth, your safe. Just dont gurn hard enough to snap teeth 8o

I use stims daily for ADHD (and other reasons..) and everywhere I go i have a water bottle with me that I sip out of constantly to avoid the dry mouth. I go through a packet of extra chewys like every couple days, according to my dentist (who I see reguarily) the only thing thats keeping my teeth in mint condition is the constant chewing. Chewing stimulates saliva production, team that up with constant sipping and your set.

I do worry about my jaw though :\

shit i cracked one of my bak ones ages afon from grinding.. made it worse on the weekend i smoke meth weekendly ciggys all the time nd marijuana moderately u rekons its infected?

Is it painful? Has it turned colour? To tell you the truth if it hasnt it will be infected soon. Cracked teeth are usually removed, as they cant/very hard to repair it and food/drinks can get between the crack n cause a infection = take tooth out anyway.

If it turns colour means the tooth is pretty much dead. not like smoke n coffee stain, but turn black

Chewing gum is a good idea; xylitol gum is the best option. Bacteria on the teeth take it up instead of sucrose, but can't use it as an energy source and so it inhibits their growth.

As for mouth washes; there was a recent (couple of years maybe) Australian meta-study on mouthwashes that claimed an increased risk of oral cancers with long-term mouth wash use. I can't remember the details, but this may have been due to the alcohol content.

^ could also be the benzoic acid, though alcohol has been strongly linked to mouth & throat cancer too. I really need to start flossing more :S

My dentist told me Listerine aint good - too harsh on the teeth, in his opinion Oral B mouth wash was the best (but then he may have shares in Oral B?)

Alcohol in Listerine in particular is my concern. Some of the more recent studies contribute changes in the permeability of the cell wall by alcohol allowing carcinogens to enter. That is why drinking and smoking together is a no no.

Chlorhexidine will also stain you teeth after prolonged use so that is why I only really recommend Savacol for shorts bursts for acute infections.

The only mouthwash I generally recommend is a weekly Flouride rinse like Neutrafluor 900 for those people with rampant decay. Problem is it relies on idiots remembering to use it weekly. More foolproof is neutraflour toothpaste that is high flouride and they can use it daily.

MY old man swears by Sea salt, kills all know bacteria dead.

Dosnt alcohol in mouthwash cause bad breath?

^ I don't think so; after rinsing with Listerine my breath smells like whatever flavor it is. Usually mint.

Those are behind the counter in QLD, and the Neutrafluor toothpaste is S3. I don't think they are intended for long-term use; perhaps an increased risk of fluorosis?

Busty... just wondering if you have any thoughts on Recaldent (specifically Tooth Mousse)? My dentist has recommended I use it.

Agree with mr blonde, regular fluride toothpaste works fine, from the supermarket. And thats if your teeth are really fkd use that stuff.

Katmeow you dont think your dentist recomended for a reason?

If you take care of your teeth, you wont needall these fancy stuff. Just brush floss and rimse with supermarket stuff twice a day n chew gum + stay hydrated during a binge.

It's obvious, but heading to a dentist once a year is important. I left it for a few years... and then when I did go, my gums were so sensitive they had to put me under local anaesthetic to do a clean/scrape - so I ended up spending a heap of cash, when if i'd just kept up the yearly routine, I would have been fine.

It's not cheap but it really is worth it!
