I have read up on serotonin syndrome and I definitely have sweats and increased heart rate. Would a 2mg xanax be ok to calm me down? Is what I took anywhere near a big amount?

I would say take some xanax, since it is useful in treating seizures. Never mix tramadol and setraline again. You may want to wait for a second opinion, i'm no expert.

OK just took a bar my heart rate earlier was 144 now it was lower when i checked it just waiting on the xanax to kick in. Glad I didn't take more. At what point does someone get worried about serotonin syndrome?

I think the xanax bar I took is kicking in and I feel much much better thankfully my brother helped me with a xanax or I was seriously debating going to the ER. I did not know these had this interaction my doctor gave me this combination and I took the sertraline about 6 hours earlier. Never doing that again!

Are you sure you weren't just nervous? My mother takes care of an elderly woman who is 300mgs of tramadol and 50mgs of sertraline daily with no problems. Antidepressants are frequent prescribed along side tramadol, though high doses do pose risks. Serotonin syndrome at these doses is very unlikely. Tramadol makes me sweat and anxiety increases HR, which would explain why it was lowered after taking the benzo. If you had serotonin syndrome a benzo wouldn't be enough to bring your HR down to a normal level, typically cardio selective beta blockers are needed.

They diagnose you based on your symptoms and risk factors. Typically first line treatment is a beta blocker for bp/hr, benzos for rigidity and seizures, IV fluids, and sometimes cyproheptadine if they feel your in danger, unable to just ride it out. Cyproheptadine essentially stops your body from producing serotonin. I remember reading that severe cases they temporarily give you medications that paralyze you... serious shit.

^I had it once, worst experience of my youth so far. You know when you have it though. You'll be shivering like it was 0° and you were about to have a seizure. Your whole body will feel metallic, and it's like you're vibrating from the inside out for 2 or 3 days, no sleep iirc.
