So of course, I along with the countless other, dream of being superstar DJ haha one day. I think about this one think probably too much, and its the fact that I'm 23 with no financial resourses yet and no experience. What age do you think most djs start? And not the huuge ones, but you think If I get the necessary equipment, and assuming I have great talent, I could do enough networking ha and such to say....dj such festivals as L.I.B. and Beyond or such. Or have a residency at a decent local club, maybe not as big as Avalon. 5 years? 15?
Or am I just a dumbass and it depends on a million things, and I could be 60 and startvand it woukdnt matter. Your thoughts?

I think most DJs tend to start pretty young, something like 16-17.

I would just start working as DJ as a hobby. Have another primary source of income and slowly develop your skills, networking and options. Don't go all in.

welll 23 is a fine age to be ....23 is such a significant number....its been a long time since I was that age :D

I agree though get some kit together and start practicing, get some mixes together burn up some CDs and start handing them out. Its been a while since i was involved in such things and i dont know where you are in the world. but once you can produce a decent mix there are bound to be opertunities, unpaid gigs for internet broadcasts or even warm up sets at clubs or free parties.

I think the challenge is to keep going, keep recording those mixes and handing put the CDs with your details, you might not end up a super star but if you've got any real talent and yo are prepared to put in the work you should be able to at least get the chance to play out regularly.

Best of luck....remember 23 ;)

learn to produce, make some tunes, will get you recognized much faster and get you a name for yourself

^^^

Very good point and also stuff yuo can use in yuor own sets, with the right kit

anybody can dj, its nothing new, you wont get anywhere just by djng. it is very cool though i would love to be playing tunes for a big crowd of people all mashed off their face

If you only had to pick 1 (producing or dj'ing) for some reason don't ask why...
But do you think producing or dj'ing will make one more popular? I would think dj'ing, but what do you guys think?
