This may sound a bit odd, but I have been stuck on a medication for this entire year despite it causing me negative effects. When I resolve to reduce the dose, a few days later I am wracked with fear and OCD about doing so, and this leads to me reversing the decision. This is has been going on for 9 months and I do not know what to do about it. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I feel stuck.

I found when i was stopping anything if i thought of it my symptoms got worse. Try a new hobbies to distract yourself. Exercise helps quite a bit. You may not feel like it but even a small walk can get those good endorphins going. Also keep reminding yourself that this will pass and soon be a distant memory.

Maybe slow your taper? What medication if you don't mind me asking

Ask your doctor to help you taper.

As for dealing with negative thoughts, my favorite methods are:
  • Daily exercise (Running, weightlifting, body-weight resistance training, even a 10 minute walk)
  • Meditation (Start with a few minutes a couple times a day. Guided meditations are excellent for beginners)
  • Comedy. Watch your favorite comedian, funny TV show, YouTube videos, etc. This gets you out of anxious-based thinking and distracts you long enough to calm down.
CBT/DBT also works for some people.
What is stopping you from simply increasing the dosage back up if you encounter worse effects from being off the medication than on it?
