I've always liked that particular christmas carol, and it inspired me to write something... It strikes me as interesting how one can sing about the death of Christ in such a joyful way... that 'Tomorrow shall be my dancing day" could mean "tomorrow i will die.".... anywho...
I tried to call you to my side,
To see the measure of my play;
With my skirts in my hands and my arms held wide,
Tomorrow shall be my dancing day.
I tried to teach you how to dance,
Show you the steps ahead that lay;
But nothing would my true love chance,
Tomorrow shall be my dancing day.
I tried to sway you with my eyes,
Impart a sidelong glance your way;
It seems your downcast face implies,
Tomorrow shall be my dancing day.
I tried to love but it’s for naught,
The pattern of my footsteps say;
That nothing for my pain is wrought,
Tomorrow shall be my dancing day.
