Tolerance or Familiarity.

I think its almost %100 familiarity, once you start to do something all the time it becomes second nature and rolling is not going to make you feel on top of the world because you have become accustomed to this feeling, it becomes mundane and almost boring. I think the magic can definitely be regained to a certain extent if you wait long enough time before using again.

MazDan, I think you're kind of blurring the line between tolerance and familiarity in the your post. From what I understand (and correct me if I'm wrong), you're differentiating between the tolerance of a certain feeling and the gaining of familiarity of this feeling. In a sense, they're the same thing, right?

I guess my question is:

Are we defining "tolerance" as a physical aspect, or a psychological one?

Sorry for not seeing this before.

My understanding of Tolerance is that in order for a certain drug to work you actually need more of it and further on more and more again.

Ecstasy is sort of differemnt in that many of the positive aspects of mdma are not regained no matter how much extra you take..............................hence i suggest this is because its not a tolerance issue but a familiarity one.

Does that make sense?

I think the impurities have a huge impact on "the magic". Some pills that I know had MDMA in them have felt good, but not overly magic or physically euphoric. Then again when I have pure MDMA it feel totally magic and almost psychedelic and ive had at least 100 pills in my lifetime. For me pills are not worth it anymore for 2 reasons, being on SSRI's and they just started feeling shitty. The only place worth taking pills was at raves, id rather have meth for the stimulation and euphoria or acid for the mind bending thoughts and rare but when it does occur the mindblowing euphoria.

Try a good pill, then try some pure and see if you notice a difference in "magic", id be willing to bet they feel totally different.

^^Yup, MazDan, that does make sense.

In the end, I think it could be any combination of tolerance or familiarity. It really depends on the person and the situation, which is true of most things.

Familiarity doesn't really come into play at all past the first couple times, in my opinion.

After the first two, maybe three times, you take a drug, you are familiarized with it (assuming you are taking the same pure dosage). You are already familiar with what it does to you, and the "wow" factor of trying ecstasy for the first few times is largely diminished.

After that initial period, the wow factor is gone, and you are in line with most habitual ecstasy users.

The only other thing that distinguishes you from other users in your experience of MDMA is the level of tolerance (assuming all other things like set, setting, diet, weight, etc. are all held constant).

I don't really understand what you are getting at with familiarity. Do you really think the 12th time is more potent in your mind than the 13th time because you are more familiar with what the drug does to you?

I think the real issue is, after years of rolling, it's hard to find new stuff to do, and even ecstasy can't remedy the fact that you've been doing the same thing time after time.

Interesting post MazDan, and something I've pondered as well.
No one's really sure how long it takes one's seratonin to be fully restored after taking mdma, nor are we sure if there are any permanent effects on one's brain after taking mdma, so "losing the magic" could very well be a tolerance issue.
However, many people report they "lose the magic" only after they've read reports of others losing the magic, which indicates psychological involement in this whole thing.
There's no doubt that after one takes mdma, assuming that person took an active dose, he/she is going to remember and thereafter be familiar with the mdma expereince. However, the same could be said of any drug.
All I can say for sure is I wish my memory was better. I've not taken mdma in over a year, and I can hardly remember what I did last week, let alone my first few mdma experiences. :\
At any rate, I suspect both play an important role in how one reacts to future mdma experiences.

Well you put it like that yeah familiarity doesn't explain it. Personally i've not 'lost the magic' anyway so i can't really comment, just that i need a higher dose for the proper effects. Thats tolerance, but its not so much tolerance i cant feel the empathy and unique effects to MDMA.
