If you dont use & stretch tendons be it in your hand, leg, arm, wherever, it will shorten and seize and cause you problems. This is one of the basic premises behind physiotherapy. The body's a finely tuned machine and if not used properly there will always be repercussions.

This is very true, especially with barefoot walking/running or walking on the ball of your foot at all. It causes more stress in the calf muscles, so always make sure to stretch before and after doing anything out of the ordinary. If you're used to it, it might actually make you feel a bit more "bouncy". I like it too, though I had my calf cramp up on me for three days because I didn't stretch properly.
