To trip for the experience or for the after-effects...?

So you buy the ticket, take the ride...and then you have the rest of life which is influenced by the choice to consume such chemical on such occasion.

Do you guys ever find the function of the experience the after-effects ?

What reminded me of this thread I've been meaning to start was a reference to the overwhelmingness of mushrooms in another thread. My mushroom trips are often uncomfortable for a majority of the exp and often invoke ideations of death and insanity. In general my mushroom trips are pretty crazy and kinda scary at some point at least, compared to mescline, LSD and the other plants i've worked with which don't so much have this dark tendency.

Now that being said, the After Effects of a break through mushroom trip are always very rewarding and refreshing in a way which is also unique compared to that of other psychs. I feel reborn after a mushroom trip and very much so 'aligned with the earth frequencies'. A feeling that everything is where it needs to be, and a refreshing of the normally mundane transforming the drab into the curiosity-invoking. ESP the curiosity, mushrooms leave me with this scooby-doo mysteries kind of childhood-esque detective feeling...like I'm hot on the trail of uncovering great mysteries of existence. :-)

The after effects of all trips are what bring me back honestly.sure I'm intrigued by the intensity and the idea of seeing the other side, but as I grow I feel less drawn toward recreational use of psychs. And thus, my timing of exps becomes dependent only on my own assesment of 'the vibe of partaking', rather than on environmental factors like concerts and the like. Anyways, with all the meditations I do, I am very in tune with what is 'right for Me' and I only veer toward psychedelics when the given transformation that X psychedelic produces seems beneficial to my current state of spiritual development. I'm not absolutely 'free of desires' I do still love psychs for their effects n the moment...but like I said with fungus, the after-effect is what brings me back. I'll take an exp of death for the granting of renewed life lol.

Watcha guys think...? Not just with mushrooms, but in general, how do you weigh the importance of a given exp...by the night or by the ripples which ensue...? or do some of you guys trip for fun (enjoyment on the exp itself) but also feel drawn toward transformation as a reasoning for your partaking...? Do you think every now and again..'man the effect of that would totally compliment my sober perspective...let me consume...'?lol

I agree, and I've had similar experiences to your mushroom experiences with 4-AcO-DMT (possibly 4-HO-DMT since some has degraded), as we've already discussed. They are at the very least usually a bit anxious, and at the most severe they can be horrifying and leave me curled up in the foetal position for the majority of the experience feeling utterly worthless - but the afterglow is very wonderful and healing.

That said though, I think a large part of it was I was ignoring the messages the 4-AcO-DMT was giving me, showing me my problems and how to deal with them, which I never did until recently.. I imagine if I tripped now it'd be back to the blissful joyous experience it was when I first took it, in which case I'd value the experience and the afterglow equally :)

No. I trip for the experience itself. I often feel rough afterward so don't generally enjoy the immediate period post-trip.

I do, however sometimes come away with something I can integrate into my daily life - my last DOC trip allowed me to rationalize my social anxiety (of which I suffer badly), and it definitely feels as though I've found an additional strategy to cope with this as a result of that DOC trip (which believe it or not, was at a rave, dancing away to psytrance and techno).
