Timing of propranolol, Adderall and baking soda

So, I'm planning on taking baking soda with water 45 minutes before a dose of Adderall tomorrow to help absorption.

But, I also hear that taking propranolol 45 minutes before Adderall helps in decreasing the unwanted side effects of amphetamines.

So, if I were to take these three substances, in which order should I do so?

Thanks

There's some conflicting information about this but it seems that it is generally not advicable to mix beta blockers with amphetamines (and many other stimulants). It can be dangerous for your heart, in the worst case causing damage to the heart. I'm not trying to sound like an alarmist here, but think of it this simple way: the stimulants raise your hear beat and propranolol lowers it. One drags your heart rate up, while the other drags it down, so your heart becomes a "fighting ground" between the two. This is not good for your heart. In fact, instead of removing unwanted side effects you may get a an irregular heartbeat and cardiac dysrhythmia. It's true beta blockers reduce hypertension, but be careful about your heart. Also, the point of taking stimulants is to get...stimulated. Beta blockers are the opposite of this. You won't feel nearly as stimulated if beta blockers keep you heart rate down.

Beta blockers can be good for residual stimulation, when the effects of the stimulants wear off but your heart is still pounding and you maybe can't get sleep. So definately, take propranolol after the others. It should be the last one. And preferrably while the stimulants are starting to wear off. If I take anything stimulating, I always take beta blockers when the drugs main effects are over or when I'm going to sleep. If you want to reduce side effects of the stimulation, take benzos. They're completely safe with amphetamines and removes irritating and nervous stimulation.

^This entire above post is very solid advice. Listen to it.

Thanks for the very helpful reply, Cyanoide.

I'll abstain from propranolol unless needed for after the effects wear off.

I ran out of xanax the other day and will be a week or so until I can get valium so I just researched other possibilities.

Thanks again.

Yea, I don't see why you'd want to ruin the adderall by taking a beta blocker. Save the Prop. for when you're with friends or doing something social.

For the baking soda, I used to put it in an empty XR capsule and take it an hour or so before. So yea, 45 mins would be good.

If the adderall is causing unwanted side effects, you should probably just lower the dose until you're comfortable with ALL the effects, then work your way up.

I'm not entirely certain on the mechanics, so if someone could further explain, I'd appreciate it:

The danger is specifically in regards to blood pressure, heart rate, etc. My foggy understanding is that propranolol blocks adrenergic receptors, while leaving <insert other circulatory-mediating receptors> at balance. This, naturally, leads to an effective imbalance. This is why beta blockers are never used for stimulant overdose - it can actually cause further complications.

From experience, I'll also include that I hate potentiating stimulants. For me, there's a notable decrease in desirable effects (not just rounder peaks, but if I were to graph the subjective concentration, I'd shift everything downward.) YMMV.

Does anyone else have any experience regarding this? Thanks for the response, m060mm. Interesting... I'm looking to use it for concentration/studying purposes.
