I'm currently smoke marijuana legally in California, take klonopin twice a day, Hydrocodone for my healing fractured clavicle as needed and at the moment my back want out on me which i usually use Hydrocodon. The Hydrocodone 5 mg doesn't seem to do the job anymore and I end up taking 3 5mg pills twice daily which works great for now but I do not want to add more pills to the hydro. I have been lucky because I've been off and on this since October (8 months) but not every day use nor do I exceed the tablet daily max. I just take more mg's in my dose but usually twice daily. I see myself taking it today because I have to shower, etc and I'm not 100% yet. With my back I haven't been able to shower since Monday. Any bending send pain through my entire lower back, a bit sharp. The doctor just gave me a scrip yesterday. Does anyone know how long or how much opiate it takes for W.D. Symptoms to occur? I'm scared at some poin it will smack me in the face. Can it be that I am not a daily user? Time has come to be sober. I have so much to live for.getting married in the fall, a job and I'm a happy person with usual daily life up and downs.
I know the program which isn't always for me. I don't mind attending meetings as I do to remind my self who I am. Usually AA meetings b/c I quit drinking 8 months ago but as an addict does, one can replace one with the other. Not sure what answers I'm looking for here. My main concern is when does one withdrawal from opiates or am I over thinking it as I do a lot. Klonopin will take a while to come off of b/c I will have to taper. It's one of my meds I do not take more of. If I do the doctor takes no B.S. So I follow the instructions. I guess my main concern is the norcos.....
any advice or fed back.

It is important to plan ahead wisely, bit I feel like you may be over thinking it. More importantly, how long or how much it takes for acute withdrawal symptoms to occur depends entirely upon many individual factors, so no one can really answer your question but you. If you chat with us about your experiences and whatnot some more, I feel like you will be able to figure it out for yourself pretty soon.

Generally I have heard that using never more often than once every four days will prevent significant tolerance from building. Some symptoms of acute withdrawal are umpossible to avoid if used regularly, one a weekly or even monthly basis, such as constipation/diahrrea.

There are simply no cases where someone is regularly using an opioid(s) and does not have to pay the piper eventually here and there.

A good question would be asking yourself why you are trying to quantify how you are using drugs. Are you attempting to use them more responsibly? Are you attempting to treat addiction or any problematic history of drug use? Reflection on your intentions regarding what you have done and how it mpacts what you are doing now can very benefitial. Not to mention brain storming and strategizing with strangers, friends, family, coworkers and peers.

Wow, this is a thought provoker in a very positive way. Thank you for you well thought out response! Do you do this professionally ? Thanks again

Nope, but I do take donations ;)

But seriously, BL has helped me more than I know or you could imagine. Anything of value in my posts is merely a reflection of this reality.

Ok, so far I haven't taken a pain pill. My goal is not to take anything that has an opiate in it. I might have to pull out the Advil because the back still hurts/pulled.

As long as you can tolerate it, they say that 800mg of ibupreofen is more effective at dealing with stuff like muscle related pain or even back pain than a 5mg hydrocodone/500mg APAP old school Vicodin.

If you can find yourself a good MBSR course. Insight LA has a lot of them, and I can give you a couple names of some absolutely top notch MBSR teachers who fascilitate even better classes than Insight LA. MBSR was originally developed to work with people who were struggling with the pain and discomfort of their chronic conditions. It would almost certainly help with your pain and teach you some non-drug, non-medication methods of treating it

With the Hydros no I don't know how to mathematically set one. I've gone all day so far w/o a hydro. The klonopin I have not started a taper. My doctor said I wasn't ready in her own words. I question her sometimes. I stick to her prescription to a T! It's the opiates I am trying to avoid dependence. I'm gonna take a long break and save my remaining pills for when I need them. My back is so so, work will tell me tomorrow .

Is the clonazepam helping you to lead a more successful way of life? If you are not abusing it or taking part in addictive practices to get it, you may want to consider staying on it. If you want off, I would highly suggest that you work on the problem, or find another way to treat the reason you are taking it. (Yes meditation is amazing for anxiety!)

If you have been taking opiates for any length of time daily you will have to deal with withdrawal. For your first time it will not be that bad...but each time you withdrawal afterwards it will be a little bit harder each time. The biggest thing you can do is minimize your symptoms by tapering and getting a course of supplements that treat the individual symptoms.

Yes the clonazepan I don't abuse, taken as prescribed for ten years . I do want off them at some point!
The opiates I take for a few days, @15 mg at once times twice a day usually 2-3 days on and 3-4 days off. Sometimes a week or more. I worry about the opiates!
Thanks for relying.

You won't have too many bad physical withdrawal symptoms, but the mental stuff will still be there. It is a good idea to keep an eye on your use of opiates if you have had an addiction in the past. It is an insidious addiction that creeps up on you.

As Raysu said you may want to find what alleviates the pain better for you. Opiates are not sustainable long term, but are a boon after surgery, or managing the acute pain that comes along with injury. Exercises and nsaids may be your best bet for managing chronic pain.

Yes the mental stuff is a challenge in general because I do have an addictive nature when it comes to drugs and booze. I don't drink anymore, made the choice 8 months ago yesterday.
NSAIDs I have to be careful with b/c of my Asmtha. I guess taking those are better than an opiate addiction creeping up on me, that would be more difficult to kick.
