Time to Give Up Catholicism ?

So many reasons to reject Dogma of Catholicism. I will give most obvious.
The Pope says he holds the place of God on earth.
Another would be they want you to confess your sins and be FORGIVEN by a man- a priest-Not God. They want you to call this man "father".
I have purposely called a catholic priest son.

There's a time to give it up? I think most people give it up when they reach the age of reason. Usually around age 11-12.

Honestly. It's (still) the most wealthy and powerful institution on the planet. I know everyone bangs on about corporations and the "illuminati".. but the real deal is with the Vatican and the Italian/Euro dynasties/mega families connected to it, who have been for centuries. They're real bastards. It's in their blood.

Plus the perversion of taking a real desire to know the truth and perverting it into a business of fear and control. What utter wankers.

This website gives a look at some of the Vatican's materialist fetishes.

Yes but read what I wrote. He was Jewish in ethnicity but he disagreed with the status quo and was trying to make something new. He never once said "thou shalt follow the rules already written". He said, basically, all you need is love for all of your fellow man. You should give what you have to the poor. Things like that. It's so opposite of what religions like Catholicism have come to represent. It seems to me that Jesus, were he alive again today, would be in direct opposition to Catholicism. He preached a joyous, loving belief system which if anything resembled a rather extreme form of socialism, not a repressive, polically powerful, monetarily covetous, guilt-ridden vehicle of fear, control and hatred.

If he was just a good Jewish boy and wanted us to listen to the Jewish scriptures, he would have been a rabbi and we wouldn't have a separate religion right now.

I mean he was part hippy, but he was also quite wrathful:

And the Vatican is strictly not materialist. It decrees only spiritual readings and doctrines. Yes, they are rich however.

No takers on defending Catholicism?
I like to play "devils advocate" for debate fun,
but I wouldn't touch this one with a ten foot pole.

Old money, old power. It's cited as one of the world's biggest religious by the numbers, but I doubt those billion or so Catholics are devout, practicing ones. I mean technically I'm Catholic (according to them) for merely being baptized. So what.

They're losing popularity and they know it. The only people who still believe their crap are American Christians and their creepy Jesus, and some countries in Africa.

Problem is, Jesus was considered to be God; the god of the old Testament. Christianity should never forget that fact. I agree with your points, but the god of the old and new testaments are historically actually the same entity.

But slavery is OK.

Where did Xorkoth say that even remotely?

Long bow buddy ;)

Jesus never condemned it and the OT actually has rules as to the guidelines for selling your daughter into slavery and how hard you can beat your slave before it becomes not cool man.

(It's if they don't die within two days, your alright)

That is what PowerFarts is getting at.

But Jesus was a man. I believe that the whole "Jesus and god are the same entity" is something added later, not that it was something Jesus said or believed. Of course I can't know this, so maybe it's not worth discussing, but my belief is that Jesus was an enlightened human whose intention was to inform people that we are all a part of god and that we can have heaven on earth if only we'd all treat each other with unconditional love. I don't believe he was trying to say that he was perfect and no one else can be that perfect, as is commonly conveyed today, nor that he wanted anyone to worship him or start an organized religion. I think he was trying to say, look, I'm a human like you, and I can live this way, so can you. We can have an awesome world. Since none of the NT was written by Jesus, we really can't know, but we do know that what we have in there was written after his death by other people who had their own agendas and belief structures, much of it actually MUCH later after his death. You can't necessarily trust the words as being 100% accurate as to what Jesus was actually all about or even what he actually said. People have always used religion to justify their own desires, and to control the masses, and that was certainly happening as it was being adopted by Rome to keep their own power over the people.

Also, I realize it talks all about slavery in the OT. I don't consider the OT when I consider Jesus' words as I have explained elsewhere. Did Jesus ever say that slavery was okay? I realize he addresses slavery, as it was a very real and common thing at the time. You've got to address the issues of the day.

Anyway, I can't prove any of this but it's what I feel to be true. None of us can prove anything about Jesus, we can't even know for sure he really existed.

Catholic Church still very popular in South America and parts of Europe: Croatia and Poland come to mind as good Catholic countries.

No Jesus didn't say slavery was ok but he didn't say it wasn't..

That's the point.. He implies it's ok.

I don´t think the issue is whether we give up or not Catholicism, however, put in practice good actions, regardless if they are Catholic or new Christian.
That´s not the point at all.
