Not too sure if this is the place but i wanted to post my progress that I have had doing a taper over the past 2 weeks or so. The reason i want to post this is to see if this is common or if its in my head. Either way I feel good about my progress...

Prior to my attempt at tapering i was doing about 1.2 grams of the finest black tar a day. Since then I have dropped down to .6 grams of tar. my schedule is something like this

1:00 pm -.2

7:30 pm .2

11:30 pm .2

At first the stretch from 1:30 to 7:30 was horrible.. I was sweating my ass off.. achey ..etc... when waking up for my 1:00 pm shot I would get up with low blood pressure ...nausea...etc... after about 3 days.. the stretch from 1 to 7 30 wasnt that bad anymore.. just the sweats a little..nothing noticable unless im just sitting still. When waking up for my 1 pm shot it gets easier by the day...

This coming up week I am going to drop down to .5 a day and maybe even skip my .2 @ 7 30.. My question is this.. is it really this easy to taper down this much? I mean its almost unreal to me.. I was spending well over 100 a day..and now im spending 60 a day... to sleep i do load up on melatonin valerian root benadryl.. and on the occasion ambien..or marijuana.... any advice would be awesome..

This isnt to clear is it..lol my real ? is this.. I am tapering down, and my body seems like its adjusting to the schedule.. im worried that my body will begin to get too used to the new schedule and might demand more.. is this the way it works? or is it as long as i keep reducing the amount i do and the frequency the body will be okay with less

^Well you suffered in the beginning and now you're adjusting to it, as long as you can handle not getting high from it, and you understand that you're tapering down, that sounds par for the course. It's difficult for me to taper using heroin because I have a hard time doing maintenance shots of heroin. If you can handle doing it, it absolutely could work for you! If I had a stash of heroin sitting there that I was planning on using for a taper, the temptation to just go on a few day binge is too much for me.

That's why I use buprenorphine to taper. You probably suffer longer in the end, but I know that it will never do for me what heroin does, so it's much easier to stick to a detox regimen.

Oddly I get super high when I do my shots now..and i stay well longer.. Especially my 1:00 pm shot. It may be that i am reducing the overall daily amount vs the amount i do per shot..So im going longer with out shot so when i do get my little crumbs that I allow my self it feels good. Thanks for replying..I guess i expected the real suffering to last a lot longer. Hopefully ill be off in a month or so.

There is a big difference between lowering your dose and stopping completely. I can pretty painlessly get by with using 1/4 of my regular dose, but using nothing is completely different. That's not to minimize your accomplishments, but just to put it into perspective. I would say that once you get down to .1 in a single daily dose then you should stretch out the time between doses, then end with 0.05 for a few days before stopping. It won't be painless but shouldn't be too bad.

Oh I know that for sure.. I tried cold turkey and lord have mercy I got a real wake up call. If i try cold turkey alone im putting my health in danger..hence the reason im slowing slowly. I also understand what your saying about it not being painless even with a small habit. My gf has gone down to about .05 per shot but gets just as sick..or so she says...but i dont know how true that is..

This is definitely true. You can stay well with a lot less than you use to get high. So unfortunately, you'll probably reach a dose that is kind of a road block for you, where it's hard to get down below it.

Most of all, it sounds like you're exercising a lot of self control and have a really good attitude. Don't question whether you should be feeling worse, just be thankful you're not! Keep up the good work and the positive outlook and it should go smoothly for you.

I did want to second what Blue said. If you're not using the same batch, you risk setting yourself back if you get a higher potency batch. I don't know how homogeneous tar is, whether one chunk can be more potent than the next or not.
