This little bugger just popped up on wiki. It's supposedly a plain-jane anorectic, but very potent.

Interesting meta-substitution on the phenyl ring.

looks very like fenfluramine to me, except with a thioether linkage to the trifluoromethyl group, and relocated from position 3 on the phenyl ring to pos.5.

I'm not well up on stimulant SAR, as I hate stimulants, but I'd be careful with this stuff, fenfluramine was taken off the market as it was found to be a 5HT2b agonist, which buggered about with the regulation of cellular proliferation in heart valves with regular use.

Looks just as sketchy as fenfluramine when it comes to 5-HT2B agonist activity. I don't think that it was ever released for widespread clinical use and considering what we now know about fenfluramine-mediated cardiac valve fibrosis, I doubt it ever would be.

I'm not sure that there is, the substitutents are both meta to the amine.

studies say it "increases SE transmission" (I assume this means release?) and that "mirthless laughter" is a side effect.

That latter bit sounds a bit like psychedelia (or psychosis!)

Yeah, if the molecule is "symmetric" then there is no difference between 3 and 5 positions, as there is no difference between 2 and 6 positions.
