So i used the search and I did not find an answer I needed for my exact question, although i did find various other answers about tics under different circumstances.

I have tics(had them since early childhood, before drug use) for those who dont know they are small involuntary movements/muscle spasms, theyre sort of like tourettes but much more controllable. Anyways mine come and go but one thats always persistant is blinking my eyes. Every once in awhile (sober or high, it doesnt matter) they will become more frequent to the point where its noticible that I'm blinking a shitload for maybe like a few seconds at the most and then itll stop, but it occurs more than once a day.

Anyways my question is I take adderall, as prescribed 1, 30mg XR /day in the morning and i only take about 10mgs normally, the whole thing if i'm ridiculously tired. i do not have add i got prescribed these to counteract chronic insomnia. Point is my tics are bad enough without adderall and the pills make my tics alot worse, never when anyones directly looking at me but when im waiting for a bus, for example or when i know no one is looking i'll get like an episode of tics. Besides stopping adderall is there anything i can do/take to reduce this?

Long post, if you didnt read the point of it is I have bad tics, adderall makes them worse (but i need to take it), what do i do?

Unfortually, I suspect that pharmacologically there isn't anything that would help the tic without also preventing you from getting what you need from the Adderall.. I suspect you are either going to have to stop the Adderall and try something else for your insomnia/daytime sleepiness, or address the tic itself. Have you spoken to the doctor who prescribed the Adderall about this?

Does anything you have tried help? Behavioural therapy has been shown to help in Tourettes (see here) so you could give that a try if you have access to it..

There are many things you can try..! Have you talked this over with your Doc..?? I will give you one that I know of, and see if I can find more for you. I feel for ya ..seems fucking miserable..! Quinine is one drug that may help. This drug has many uses ..it is a wonder drug used for centuries. You are going to need pharmaceutical strength. So ask your Doc to write you a script for a strong dose: 160mg .. You use to be able to get it with out a script just till a year ago or so. You can still buy it in "tonic water with quinine" ..but there is not much quinine in it. You could still try it.? I use "tonic water with quinine" for Eyelid Spasms. Others use it for leg spasms.

Glad someone else posted, as after I made my post I did think about a few things that might help! I'm not sure what the evidence base is like for quinine in tics, but it is certainly used a lot to try and treat musclular spasms and similar disorders so definitely worth a try. Other drugs that are often used include dopamine antagonists (which would counteract the effects of the Adderall) and benzos (again, likely to cancel out the Adderall stimulation). Clonidine is also used a lot, and again although it may well counteract the stimulation, it can be given later on in the day and is actually sometimes used to treat insomnia in this way.. I'd talk to your doctor and see what they recommend.

This article
is interesting and gives a lot of information on the treatment of tics.

Good luck!

Thanks for the rest of the research you did for this post. I think we all learned something :)
