"Tiagabine enhance the activity of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. "

"Tiagabine blocks GABA uptake into presynaptic neurons, permitting more GABA to be available for receptor binding on the surfaces of post-synaptic cells. "

(RxList)

What would happen if benzos were taken by a person on Tiagabine?
Would benzos be potentiated?

I would think so, so long as tiagabine is not a competitive GABA reuptake inhibitor, interesting, although I would be very, VERY careful if I were to mix the two, and I wouldn't mix it with alcohol.

It might be interesting to see if it would potentiate Amanita Muscaria, as that is a GABA-a agonist with no respiratory depressive properties.

It shouldn't potentiate muscimol, but it should potentiate benzos...

I tried it, IV, Tiagabine is a very strange drug by itself.(*)
Many things GABA-like, about the memory, loss of motor control, but a little something SO much different.

But I didn't notice much difference with benzos...

(*it has very few binders, and ok ones; seems ok to shoot)

-----------------------------------

Tell me if I understand well: it acts the same way as Prozac for serotonin, except for GABA, that's it?

What's the difference (in itsekf and in potentiation og benzos) with:
Vigabatrin
Pregabalin
Baclofen
Gabapentin

All these molecule share same similaritires, don't they?

Tiagabine is the SSRI but for GABA
Vigabatrin inhibits the metabolism of GABA (like MAOIs but for GABA)
Gabapentin/pregabalin both effect calcium channels, not GABA-directly
Baclofen is a GABA-B receptor agonist.
