recently after discovering that sage has a relatively high content of thujone i decided to try a pretty basic extraction. the first step was to take some sage that i had lying around in my spice rack and put some into a jar problly around 2.5 to 3 grams i really dont know i just poored about half in to a jar and covered it with 91 percent isopropyl alcohol. i then let it soak over night. the next day i poured it out through a coffe filter into a glass pyrex dish, which i then placed next to my heater with a fan on it to aid evaporation. in about 4 hours i checked and it was completly dried. i then scraped it up with a razor blade. and formed it into a little ball. today directly before wrighting this i smoked a little bit about the size of half a copper bee bee out of my hash pipe. regarding the smoke it was actually quite smooth and somewhat sweet in my opinion a verry good smoke actually. the amount i smoked produced a fairly good high but not a real trip. also im not quite sure of what forum to post this under so if a mod sees this and its in the wrong section please move. i apolgize for the length but i have not seen much information so i tried to write as much information as i could.

I'm not too sure about the chemical properties of thujone, other than being one of the components of absinthe. I don't know if it will form a solid when evaporated from the alcohol, or if it would simply evaporate away WITH the alcohol. I recently experimented with white sage, but didn't get good results. At all. I simply soaked one gram in rum for 20-30 mins and drank the resulting liquid, without the leaves. I had such an awful stomache ache for the next day, and into the next few weeks that I wouldn't recommend ever trying it this way.

Than again the terpenes and other shit in there probably didn't help, other varieties of sage might be more pleasant-especially if you manage to bypass the oral route. Keep us updated.

Thujone isn't volatile, I've gotten an active resin from an ethanol extraction of wormwood. It would indeed be present in the extract if it was in the plant matter.

Who the devil would wish to ingest a hepatotoxic GABAa antagonist and why?

Just because of its traditional use in absinthe? personally I love absinthe, and I used to grow wormwood, but I never ingested any.

It is however, good for stuffing pillows with, as is its relative mugwort, but I believe it unsuitable for human consumption, it does seem to bring vivid dreaming about when stuffed in a pillow.

Wouldn't want to stuff it anyplace else, save perhaps in somebody I dislike :\

Interesting, thujone is a GABA_a antagonist and 5-HT3 antagonist. That might make it useful for speeding up recovery from benzo withdrawals. I don't know how great the hepatotoxicity is though. Its far easier to get than flumazenil so if its not too harmful to the liver, then it might be worth looking into.
