thoughts on the 'indigo' phenomena?

You flatter me. The honor is all mine. *bows*

But hey, you should hear what the initials stand for before making your final decision. =D

I've read about 'Sophia' before, but what does a French technology park have to do with my comment that you quoted above, or anything else that I've posted in this thread?

Though this fact may be lost on you, it is generally considered rude to smilingly dismiss people and ignore them whenever they make cogent points that may or may not threaten your worldview.

pip: buddy, you aren't winning people over with vague, broad brush strokes. <3

prince albert doesn't ONLY mean that ;) it just mostly does. =D

all of your posts have been criticisms that generate no real discussion

By definition, all coherent, targeted forms of criticism are excellent conversation starters at the very least. And as a moderator of this forum, I'll have to beg your pardon if you find my posts to be poorly suited to your uncritical habits of thought. If it weren't for rule number 4 of the forum guidelines (which I still feel at liberty to interpret as I see fit) and the fact that something resembling a cohesive discussion has actually managed to take hold in this thread (which has consisted predominately of your fellow Bluelighters alternately rebuking, debunking, and ridiculing your intended topic), I would have considered closing this thread days ago. As per the implicit Rule #0 of this forum, topics discussed herein must bear some perceptible relevance to the human condition, and I'm honestly not sure what that relevance may be wrt the Indigo hoax 'phenomenon,' since there doesn't appear to be any empirical nor theoretical basis upon which this phony New Age claptrap can be rationally discussed. There are however, surprisingly high sales figures. I'll leave those tidbits open to your contextual interpretation. In my opinion, snake oil salesmen and died-in-the-wool Kool-Aid-drinkers have no valuable place in a forum that is ostensibly dedicated to the intellectually active, clear-headed pursuit of truth and meaning in life.

Despite this line of reasoning (or perhaps because of it), I refuse to engage in any activity resembling censorship, and am compelled to uphold the forum guidelines as propounded by MDAO. So this ridiculous thread will regrettably have to stay open - for now.

I really don't like labels and I don't know about all this fluffy new age-y sensationalism of "Indigos" but I do believe there are souls on earth right now that were sent here, very spiritually awakened at a young age, with a specific purpose to break down old systems and ways of thinking to make way for a new world. It doesn't make them anymore special than anyone else. Other souls are here with that purpose too, they just don't wake up to it until later in life, these souls usually know from a young age why they're here.

a fancy appellation with no other function than to make a few people feel more important than they are

"we live in a wonderful world that has solved all problems by calling a spade a heart"
("calling a cat a dog" in the original quote in french, "calling a cat a cat" having the same meaning as "calling a spade a spade")
Pierre Desproges

in the same vein :

This indigo child bullshit has been around for a couple of decades at least now which means a lot of these kids that were classed as special and indigo by their parents are now well into their adult life and in their late 20's and 30's, it would be interesting to see a follow up study done too see how they ended up as adults, my hunch is they would be as varied and eccentric a bunch as anyone else, some would be junkies and dead beats, some would be professors and doctors and lawyers and the rest would fall somewhere in between.

I have yet to experience an adult coming up to me and proclaiming "I am an indigo adult" (which is a shame because I enjoy a good fist fight - lol), so most of them probably grow out of it, rebel against their parents the way all teenagers do and are as adults pretty much embarrassed by the whole thing.

It would've been great if you provided a brief overview of what Indigo people or theory is, because I sure as fuck am not going to research something that seems magic based and not a chance I'd ever believe.

It's a label given to people demonstrating particular traits, what's wrong with that? A person with great logical reasoning is a "genius" - but that isn't considered narcissistic at all, is it?

Parents seeking media attention. Back in the day it was called "child with IQ above average".

The other thing, I wouldn't put any faith into what you hear on TV, especially on those acted documentaries and shows that touch such subtle subjects.

The label has no descriptive validity nor any scientific applicability. Beyond its shameful propensity to generate easy revenue, the concept is completely meaningless.

The Intelligence Quotient, on the other hand, is a mathematical value - which value is, in turn, the end result of an exhaustive series of objective psychometric evaluations of mental performance. See the difference?

Well put. :)

thanks losty.

i am so fucking sick to death of films with arbitrarily prophesised heroics. it worked in the matrix, but everywhere else it is cheap drama and potentially dangerous to the collective intuitions of the massive audiences. how many messianic complexes result from that shit i have no idea....

i'm special!
yeah, just like everyone else. *fkn mooted*
