This place is screwed up!

mona's suggestion was a good one, and yes, there are a couple of threads and even an FAQ saying what is going on with the server, what will be done about it, and what everyone can do right now to help...
I don't have the time right now to collate everything into one thread, but I think I can find a couple and bump them... If anyone else wants to start an official thread which will be the one we'll keep (and close all the rest) then go ahead, otherwise I'll do it when I have the opportunity...
As for stricter moderating, we've suggested it a few times but never really gone ahead with it...
Go for it I say tho... We've got some guidelines here, but it will be hard to decide when threads go outside the guidelines...
The biggest problem tho is that our australian social forum isn't really placing anywhere near as much load on the server as the main social forum... from stats taken from the server a while ago Jase said that the main social forum generates half of the total load of all forums... So even if our three forums are streamlined, it won't make much difference if the main social forum is left as it is...
That's no excuse for NOT streamlining our forums tho, so I say we still go ahead and pull out the whips... These forums have degenerated quite a lot since they started, so it can't really hurt that much... and if anyone complains... tough... We mods are just gonna havta make sure we have some good guidelines to go by, and use them to back us up...

Aww gee I like bluelight as is.(C=) Sure sometimes its a bit slow or your posts crash your computer, but over the last couple of years this comunity has grown and branched out in a most facinating fashion. What was created for harm minimisation has spread and helped many like minded individuals hook up and have a good time.
Sure sometimes half the posts sometimes don't interest, little though amuse, me. Then again there are sometimes when you people just plane crack me up! Perhaps thats my mindset. If someones comments are not in line with my atitude then I can post and discuss or just click that "back" button.
Oh yeah, while I amm having my 5cents worth, GOOD JOB MODS! You have to constantly maintain a very busy board, while walking a fine like between keeping things on the straight-n-narrow and having a good time.
PLUR to all (C=)
 
If you ask the american's they'll tell you all the blow jobs make it more than worth it...
We don't do that kinda thing down here tho...

I can't be fucked reading all the posts in this thread, but I just wanted to say that I myself decided to do something about the situation and donated some money. Simple.
I think the social forums are useful in that they keep off topic conversation in the other forums to a minumum, however the problem is there are just _too_ many people posting crap in social (not as much as the main social though...). Last I heard the thought was to make the social forums available to donating $$ members only - and the harm minimization forums open to all (which is why they are there). Problem is, if that happened the noise in those forums would increase enourmously. The phreex will go crazy and kill everyone with his tek-9

Being another newbie to this site, I too didn't realise how bad the situation was.
Without realising it I have probably contributed to this problem while learning the various 'ins & outs' of BL....
One thing that does stand out though that may be a logical step is a PAID MEMBERSHIP.
It seems Porn sites are the only one's that have seriously contemplated this. A subscription payment of perhaps $5(US) a year isn't a payment that will bust bank balances, but one that will allow the work that is needed to be actually done.
A paid subscription will also (generally) create a more attentive list of subscribers as they don't want to be screwed around for their money.
I know after the short time I've been looking through BL that I would be very happy to have had to pay $5 for this service.
Perhaps a '1 week free trial' then $5(us) for 12 months membership.
Maybe I'm talking out my ass here, but I don't see any other way of BL'rs being able to reduce the amount of traffic. After all, this site is getting more and more popular every day, so the problems being faced now will be the same problems being faced in a years time UNLESS something is done to start sorting it out.
Introducing a payment for membership would do just this. As well as allowing BL to know just how much they are being used, and be able to track the various usage.
Well opinions are like bums,, everyone has one... and that's mine hehehehe
