Are there any known THIQ-based psychedelics? Having heard that that was Shulgin's next topic, are there any known THIQs with psychoactivity?

I looked at the structures, and they look they're just one double-bonded oxygen away from being decent depressants.

Anyone have any predictions about what specific chemicals will likely make it into his book? Based on the THIQ structure, i can't imagine there being many that'll make it. Add an MD-ring to the benzene makes them look pretty, but of doubtful activity.

So- who wants to play Sylvia Brown??

THIQs are vast...many are known chemically and in nature. As far as them being 5HT2 agonists....Either Shulgin has the best kept secret in San Fran or there aren't any.

At one time it was rumored that the new book would be called QIHKAL but that is now known to be false. I think the next book may have a few cacti THIQs that were maybe found to alter the mescaline effect in cacti....but nothing that is that special on its own.

Ah, i hadn't known that. Any idea what a next book may contain?

Psychedelics from a completely distinct class would be pretty wonderful.

Hello Alfa!

Thanks for your note asking about the status of the Psychedelic Index book. It was recently split in half, one part on the phenethylamine psychedelics and the other on the tryptamine psychedelics. The phenethylamine volume is nearing completion, and should be ready for typesetting and proofing by the end of the year. It is an objective offering of the facts on all phenethylamines that are known to be psychedelic, that have been tried but not found to be, or that have structures that are so closely related that they should be tried someday. There is a gathering of the chemistry, syntheses, history, natural sources, chemical properties, biochemistry, pharmacology, human activity, legal status, and every fact, either positive or negative, is documented by a literature reference that establishes its authenticity. At the moment there are about 2000 compounds in this first part and it looks as if it will run about 2000 pages. It will be equally valuable to the curious chemist and the DEA.

I am unsure when the second part will be done. I hope I have the energy to complete it in reasonable time.

We will see how it goes.

Sounds wicked. :D

I have this nagging feeling since I saw him in Basel that he will pass away once having completed his mission with this final book.I know the pattern too well and particularly I have also seen it when my father died which was about a year before the LSD conference. My raised sensibility for it caused me then a certain and sudden level of fright. To make it in time I wrote him all accounts on my little research, with my full name, per his urgent request to be able to fully reference the book.
