Thinking about trying to open a free suboxone clinic in Michigan

I have a tendency to always try and help people I know get suboxone when they are sick, but I'm tired of doing it illegally. I want to look into if there's a way to get government grants like a methadone clinic for people who can't afford it. I would have to find a Dr to come in once a week maybe and write the scripts I'm guessing, but would this be possible? Can anyone here point me in the direction of who I could talk to about this? I know some methadone clinics around here deal with Suboxone, but from what I hear, none of the ones around me have it.

I wish I had a friend like you, I'm just a chipper, but managed to chip into a couple months habit a few times, no one ever seems to have and sub around when it's time to stop... I do have a partner that watches my back and we usually split what is left and kick together....

I wish you the best in your endeavors and would think a medical doctor's licence would be a good starting point....

Yeah man thats a quality about me that I'm pretty proud of. I'm very caring and loyal, and I can never see my friends be sick. I always end up going out of my way to get ppl subs even if I have to get them from some1 else. I used to have a script, but now I'm prescribed Opana 40's and Oxy IR 30's, so the sub script is unnecessary for now.

I dont think I will need that, because my plan was going to be to hire a Dr to write the scripts like once a week or somethin like that. That's how an outpatient treatment center around me used to do it. ^thanks for that link I'm going to check that out right now!

This isn't a bad idea but it seems like there are quite a few things you'd have to prepare for if you're not developing it at an existing medical office. You should read up on the Suboxone prescribing guidelines (the training MDs need before they're able to prescribe it); I believe there are certain procedures a clinic is required to perform and you'd have to provide the diagnostic equipment.

Have you checked out the Suboxone prescriber list at their website? That's how I found a doctor a couple of years ago after inpatient treatment. The list is basically just a name, address and phone number so I had to make a number of calls, follow a number of dead-ends and was pretty lucky to have eventually found one who met my needs. Still, the office hours were odd, they didn't accept my insurance, I had to go every month to get a new prescription (and pay a fee each time) and he wouldn't let me switch to subutex when the generic was released.

All of which were minor annoyances compared to the time before that when I went to a methadone clinic for Suboxone and had to pay a hefty sum each week, follow all the methadone requirements like random testing and meeting with an incredibly unhelpful counselor, and wait an incredibly long time for everything. Additionally, for the first month they made me come in every day for my dose... all the things that are completely unnecessary with Suboxone vs. methadone.

What would have helped tremendously (and would be far easier and less expensive than trying to open a clinic) is if there had been more info available about where and from whom Suboxone prescriptions are available. A place where people could submit reviews and details about each doctor so that addicts would know where they could go for affordable and accessible care that fits their needs and avoid the places that are typically run by shady people trying to make money by replacing one addiction for another.

It would be relatively simple to create (you might even be able to use one of the wiki templates that are provided here), I think the trouble would be getting this information to the people who need it. I'm not sure if you'd be able to get funding for the project but it's quite possible... especially if you were able to get inpatient programs (most of which do not offer medical services after discharge), recovery groups like NA, insurance companies and state and county community health agencies involved. You may be able to obtain a grant from SAMSHA, a few of which are described on their website samsha.org.

There are some similar resources (eg: http://www.mcosa.net/services_directory.php?topic=2 for Macomb County) but none are very helpful for someone who is desperately in need of help who needs specific information about outpatient Suboxone treatment. If you were able to do it correctly (eliminate spam, bias and any comments relating to abuse [chipping for example] of the services), I'm sure you'd be able to spread word quite rapidly through established recovery channels like NA just by asking them to display material about the site at meetings.

Even if there's no public funding available, you could probably operate on donations and possibly obtain money from the drug manufacturer ...or even from advertising opportunities from individual prescribers who could pay for a more prominent listing, etc.

If any of this interests you I may be able to help set something like that up.

Yeah man, I think this sounds pretty do-able and I think it could help a LOT of people around me. My laptop is acting up right now and not letting me type very easily. I'll talk to you more on this later...

Ok, my laptop is working better now. So would what you were talking about be sort of like a regional forum? I was thinking about compiling a complete list of Dr's in the area I live in (Lansing MI), as some of them are not listed on suboxone.com. I am familiar with a couple of the outpatient treatment centers in the area, as well as some inpatient facilities in the surrounding cities, and I think they would be willing to help me get this up and running.
I could make a brochure and drop them off at all of the local treatment centers and have them hand them out to anybody who's asking about getting on suboxone.

Thats a good idea man, I noticed that too that there arent many places around here to get subs. Def not very many docs that seem comfortable prescribing it. I wouldnt mind helping with something like that, know a lot of people in the community that would take advantage and benefit. There is ALOT that goes into it though. So it would take a lot of planning before hand.

^^That's whats up man I could definitely use any help I could get and I know there are just TONS and tons of ppl in the capital city area that would benefit greatly from our efforts. I'm still waiting for the other person that posted on it and said he could help to respond as I want to see if I'm on the same page as him. I took what he was saying as kind of being like starting a regional forum of some type with a compound list of ALL doctors, pain or maintenance, that can prescribe suboxone, and then pass out brochures or pamphlets at local inpatient/outpatient treatment centers (I have connections at Insight recovery, which owns a rehab in clarkston and an outpatient in Lansing, and I have sources at a rehab in Battle Creek). I'm thinking it will start out as a regional thing, and once I figure out exactly what I'm doing and get that done, there's nothing else to do except grow. Maybe start out like tri-county area, to mid-michigan, to the lower half of the state, the whole state, etc etc. Maybe one day I can come up with the most complete list of suboxone dr's and info available!! That would probably roll in a descent income from the company who makes suboxone, as well as rehabs looking for after care help, donations, etc! This could be a really big, really great thing. And I'm not starting this for the money, but it WILL be very time consuming, as well as very helpful, and maybe one day I can pay my rent and groceries off somethin like this. Not tryin to get rich, just tryin to live!

oh hey, sorry, I haven't been online much since... I overestimated the amount of free time I'd have and bluelight isn't emailing me about updates... I will take a look and respond tomorrow or later tonight

^^meant to be a private message but I'm still a Greenlighter so I don't have full use of the site.

Update: the code for wiki is open-source meaning you can just use it and fill it in with the information you need. A lot of it (if not all) is also free to use (and profit from) without condition. We would just need online storage space and a domain name. Both of which are pretty cheap -- the last time I did anything similar it was $20/year -- and we wouldn't need anything too expensive unless we were getting a lot of traffic.

Until we had the ability to host all that information we wouldn't be able to generate interest for it so it would require at least a few days of work.

I'm very close to having an open clinic!

I'm almost there email me to find out where I'm at. I have room for a partner with a client base. So contact me. Thank you Keith.

Have you been able to do this? I live in Michigan and in DESPERATE need of a suboxone clinic. Trying to kick the habit and I'm sick of hustling money and buying suboxone off the street, it's a trigger for me when I do that. Any resources/info would help. Thanks!

theres no way that he did this..

just go to the doc and get your own script, it would be way cheaper then gettin it off the streets, not to mention take you away from the triggers and keep you away from the dope cause you will always have the subs in your possession and not run out and need to find a fix

and yeah the scripts are expensive but if you an afford dope or buying them off the streets then you can afford the script..plus they make a generic version so you dont have to get a name brand

You might have issues with theft n robberies if all the dope fiens new a free place to cope suboxone they'd wait for people to walk out n rob them or til the place was closing and then rob it.

Ya I ended up getting a script from a doctor...and I got a card from the reception it's a zero co-pay card up to 50 dollars so my script is actually free every 2 weeks. Pretty nice set up. If you get suboxone make sure you ask about it.
