think i can return to chipping?

Man, I've tried the "once a week" thing and it didn't even come close to working. The problem is that one day out of the week you'll be excited, happy, and feel great. Then the other six days are spent looking forward to nothing but the next day you can get high. Your whole week will revolve around nothing but that and eventually, one day, the thought will pop into your head telling you twice a week, just this once won't hurt. Then it's game over. As soon as you justify once, justifying again and again is inevitable.

I went to rehab in may and started chipping a few months later. I'm also very strong willed in terms of as far as an addict goes. Oh btw did I mention I'm now snorting 200mg of opana a day and banging H whenever i can get it? Spent 1200 the last 6 days. Yea. So if that makes any difference I think the answer about chipping is....

NO!!!! It always leads back. Always always always no exceptions

I think people who post about wanting to chip are probably going to do it regardless of what people say and warn, but oh well. All I KNOW is that if the stat isn't 100% it's damnnnnn sure 99.9% of people who chip end up back in full blown addict EVENTUALLY. Maybe not within a week, month, year, but eventually.
That's my $.02. Stay smart brotha!!

giving advice to drug addicts rarely works; if really one of those things people have to experience in order to learn from it... I know some people that still keep running into a brick wall time and time again and know its bad....

Addiction has nothing to do with will power IMO... Its more of a physiological problem in the brain... I believe the brian gets rewired from a lot of drug use and really messes with reward... Life is depressing and boring without drugs i know

IF you guys are desperately addicted should really think about subs or done will probably greatly improve the quality of your life while still being on opioids

I really do appreciate all the advice. Im just not ready to give it all up yet. Of course when the thoughts come to use more I take it as a red flag and basically prolong my next use. So if I use on weekends and on Wednesday I feel like using again, I skip that upcoming weekend and dry out for an additional week. Thanks for the love and support though, because if/when I fall off again ill take all the "I told you so"s and come crawling back here for salvation where I know people still care even if I do fuck up big. That's what I love about bluelight.

I chipped heroin on and off for twenty years before I took the slide into delicious ever destructive junkydom about six years ago. Since then I've detoxed plenty of times (mostly with suboxone) and tried chipping again plenty of times too. Just can't do it. Every time it fucks up quickly. Two days in a row of smack and I go into low level withdrawals. Two days doesn't cause full blown withdrawals, but try telling that to me when I'm kicking my way through another night without sleep and such.

Serotonin101, be more careful than you need to be. I think if you keep chipping you're going get yourself hooked. What you really have to do is figure out a plan for when you DO get hooked again. For me, unmedicated withdrawals just keep getting worse and worse. But it's just as easy to detox at home with suboxone as it ever was. If you are serious about not becoming addicted again, get ready for what you need to do when it happens. In my case that would be lining up a decent supply of suboxone.

I got 2 months worth of suboxone sitting on my counter if/when that happens. My body metabolism is extremely high so drug half lifes are like 75% of what's claimed. So far this has helped purge my body quickly of substances so tolerance stays in check, withdrawals are very short lived (3 day complete heroin detox after a gram a day habit for 8 months) but my highs are very short lived. Of course I only buy enough for 1 maybe 2 shots on purpose and going to get more is a chore so redosing is not practical or probable. It's a blessing and a curse.

Sero, it sounds like you're well stocked for if/when your chip becomes another monkey. You just need to be mentally prepared for it. I'm assuming it would totally suck for you to get hooked again and stay hooked for quite a while. Even with suboxone to make the detox go fairly smooth - it still sucks. What I'm saying is just that you should probably do whatever you can to mentally prepare you to do what you need to do if/when your chipping goes to far. I can't remember exactly what you said about your girlfriend, but maybe you should talk over this aspect with her. I hope it works for you.

Its been a while since ive wrote but I felt led to repond to this thread.

I havent met an ex heroin addict that was able to return to chipping or flirting with it again. Last time I tried to play with it after 3 years clean I got a full blown addiction after one use. I used once, a week later it happened again than the time got closer and closer.

Quit while your ahead buddy, just read back thru the blulight archives and youll see how it worked for others.

A FOOL LEARNS FROM HIS OWN MISTAKES, A WISE MAN LEARNS FROM SOMEONE ELSES.

p.s Im currently clean about 7 or 8 months or so.

Congrats on all your clean time. I actually just got done talking to my gf about taking a long term break from h. Were using one more time next Monday then it won't be again til the end of January for my 21st bday. Wish us luck :) love you guys and thanks for the info and support

Hey Sero, don't you think that having 2 months worth of Sub on hand might make it easier to fall back into addiction? Because having that ready supply greatly mitigates the consequences of falling back into opiate addiction. I'm not trying to patronize you. I just know that's what I'd be thinking, but I have terrible will power when it comes to opiates.

listen man, i was on methadone for a minute, like 6 months...and yes, one day i finally cracked and copped a bag, and you know what? i copped one everyday after that for like 2-3 weeks. eventually the money ran thin, and i personally could not afford to fall back into that criminal lifestyle so i had to slow down. chipping is possible for some people but the circumstances and the individual's personal psychology as well as their own self-control really weigh in. After that i was able to chip like use once every week or two weeks, but if i had the means i would have been getting more often. see the complications? try to stay away man for real it aint worth it this shit.

Name relation to johnny lee millers character in trainspotting? I always wanted his boot with false heel to stash my kit.

Ok I can feel it coming soon but I'm gettin a fix tonight hopefully. 6 days from last use so not fully a week but meh. I know I'm justifying. Just figured I'd let everyone know when I don't return to bl for a weeks ill be crawling back (if it comes to the worst). Love you all

Chip off the ol' block

Honestly, man, I have an old sub Rx that has lasted me over a year. A regular script is like 2 or 3 x 8mg, and I usually take .25mg a day. Subs are way over-dosed. Anyways, it has gotten me through over a year of wd/s from hard use and some attempts at chipping.
I agree, I take 16 mg of subutex everyday, except when I'm chipping, and I can take 2mg and not even get the slightest bit sick. It's weird but the total saturation level is very low. I would recommend saving your subs and taking less and less so that your last script will last you until you figure out other health insurance.

To answer your question, why would you be asking if you really thought it was possible. I have been a junkie for the past 6 years with only 2 periods of sobriety, neither over 90 days while I was going to AA, and I did at those points, once for 67 and once for 72 days use absolutely nothing, no booze, no h, no pills, no pot, NOTHING. I am just here to tell you that if you can chip without being on some kind of maintenance your are the exception, not the rule.

And this is coming from a guy who is "terminally unique" to quote my old AA sponsor.

Best of luck though no matter what you do and I am always here if you wanna talk about life or the monkey on your back or both. I know what it's like and there is a ton of good people here on bluelight to help you if you just ask. Good question though, LoL, hats off to anyone who ever had a "real" habit that went back to chipping. Hats way off ;)
