for me it was "the complete sherlock holmes" 1122 pgs by sir arthur conan doyle. I read it all a few summers ago while doing lots of drugs, and it was pretty damn good. all the holmes stories in one thick leatherbound volume. did you know sherlock holmes was a cokehead? Its true! There are many descriptions of holmes injecting "cocaine hydrochloride.

What is the longest book you ever read?

"Bleak House," by Dickens, was quite long. "The Canterbury Tales," all of them, are pretty long, too (and it was supposed to be a lot longer). It's also a lot more enjoyable than "Bleak House" - I took a tutorial on Chaucer a few years ago, and had a blast with these stories. Read 'em in Middle English for extra fun. =D

Lotta people back then were cokeheads...Sigmund Freud was one of the early exponents - his friend was apparently the first coke addict in Europe ;)

Anyway: Infinite Jest, David Foster Wallace comes in at around 1100 pages. Also read a couple of Neal Stephenson novels at around 900-1000. Keep meaning to read Clarissa (18th century, apparently the longest novel in English or something) but the guy's shorter novels bore me so I can't see why that one would be any better.

One day I'll break my leg and spend a month in bed reading Rememberence of Things Past ;)

8900.gif
1904 pages (quite the interesting novel)

Then, of course, War and Peace

"Read 'em in Middle English for extra fun. "

impressive. :)
Theres a girl in my class says she reads chaucer for pleasure in the original
text, and when we get to translating in class, she can't fucking understand a word of it. stupid pretentious bitch.

I find it hard to get past the excessive auctoritee and references to mythology and classics. I can see how it adds to the work as a whole, but it gets a bit tiresome. good stories though.

The lord of the rings. I bought the copy that had all 3 stories in 1 book, and I read the appendix and everything. I'm actually in the process of reading it a 2nd time. It's definately the best book I've ever read without a doubt.

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, >1400pgs. I read it in one month, back when I was in 8th grade.

By far the best book I've ever read.

I got the name I'll give my daughter if I ever have one, from this book.

^I bought that book in 8th grade as well... but I couldn't keep reading it when it took him 3 pages to explain the details of a stone wall. Maybe I'll give it a chance again. :)

BTW Cosette and Fantine are both beautiful names. :) Though I'm guessing you were thinking of Cosette.

No. I was a nerd, all I did was read books. I averaged one DragonLance book a week, through most of middle school (6gr-8gr). Les Miserables was the only AR book I ever read out of the schools library and took a test on.

hrm... i don't really keep a record of how long a book is... i've read anthem, it was pretty long as amor stated... H.H. Ben-Sasson's History of the Jewish People was really freaking long as well (just looked at it, it's around 1200 pages)...

i read lotr and the hobbit when i was a kid. i remember when i was around 10 years old i thought that the phantom tollbooth was like the longest book ever... lol.

LOTR trilogy. I loved those books and I am not much of a reader, fucking TV.
I remember coming to the end of The Return of The King and being very sad because I new the story was going to end.
