The X-Men Movies are about Gay Rights

Um, no it doesn't. Gay rights is a HUGE issue right now and at the time the movies were being written and all that. Jewish rights is not much of an issue at all, unless you're in the backwoods of the deep South or something like that.

The idea of humans hating mutants was written in 1963 when the comic premiered. It didn't come out of a backroom 20th Century Fox brainstorming session.
Look, if you're going to say that X-Men is about gay rights, you need to show how WHOOOOOOOOOOLE movie is about gay rights. You can't just cherry pick a few bits and say "See, all three movies are gay rights analogies!"

You need to show that over 50% of the movie's content is gay-related.

If X-Men is about gay rights, then what does the conflict between Magneto and Professor X represent? Seeing that it is the central conflict?

And the fourth movie shows that gays aren't filthy animals, despite the fact that they enjoy fucking men! You know, how wolverine had all that gay sex (represented through all the gruesome fighting he did throughout his life), and still isn't an animal.

I jest I jest... I'm not implying gays are animals or anything. <3

^ And that wasn't sarcasm. Just felt like I had to clarify that.

Just don't want any of you guys to get butt hurt (pun). Ok I'm done. Curse me under your breath if you want, though.

the comparisons are SO extremely broad that it could be about ANYthing. i, like most everyone else, fail to see the relation above the other potential relations.

i agree that the idea of persecution involved in the x-men movies can be extrapolated to many oppressed people....however.... bryan singer, the director of x-men 1 and 2 is openly gay, so it doesnt seem that far from the mark to assume that this may have influenced the story line a bit.

also why are so many people talking about the original comics? the thread question is about the movies.

it's about the movies, which have evolved from the comics. it's relevant.

also, whether the director is openly gay or not doesn't sway me either way. still, the comparisons are SO broad. who says they even have to have any underlying meaning, anyways? why can't we just assume that it is what it is? not EVERYthing is a representative for something else. i think the professor (spaceyourbass' prof. that is) is reading too much into things, plain and simple.

You can make any connection about most anything if you would like.

But god forbid the X-men was only meant to be movies about mutants and theuir powers and getting to see some kick ass fight scenes for pure enjoyment.

i dont necessarily agree that the movies are connected to gay issues, but it also wouldnt surprise me if that was at least an intention on the part of the makers of the movie.

it seems like some people are really adamently against this theory...

Um.. Isn't it obvious. Magneto and Prof. X are secretly in love with one another. But because of societies looming homophobic ideology, they are unable to express this sexual desire and thus an epic lovers quarrel ensues.

You see, magneto is trying to turn all straight people gay, but X is actually bi, so he doesn't want that. Thus - - conflict.

Your both wrong.

Mag is mad because Prof X is paralyzed and takes his "not getting any" anger out on the world, whilst X wants to show him love does not have to be physical.

it is clear in the first xmen film that they were trying to achieve the same message as the original 60's comics (the african american struggle) when xavier and magneto both took on the martin luther king jr and malcolm x roles respectively in their conversations. magneto even went so far as to quote "by any means necessary".

i can see where your teach is coming from some elements of xmen, but i strongly disagree that gay right was a primary focus of the films.

Alright I can see that. So I guess the whole mind fuck isn't as good as the real deal.

Ok, I can see when you can GET that. But I think thats just projecting our current problems onto our entertainment.

One of my professors brought this up briefly. I've seen all three movies, but slept through a lot of them b/c I was mostly taking my little brother to see them.

In one film, there's a "cure" for mutants. People often think that gays can be cured. Is the film saying that gays cannot be "cured" so don't try to cure them?

In one scene, a mother asks her mutant kid "can't you just try to not be a mutant?" That's like a mother saying to her kid "try to not be gay."

The mutants are oppressed/looked down upon. Gay people are oppressed/looked down upon. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the movies can support the argument my professor briefly made to us. Discuss

I'm trolling 4chan with this.
