how do the lidoderm patches work for you?

celebrex is so expensive....when i first got a script, i had no insurance and they were $4 per pill!!! luckily, my doc gave me a shit ton of samples.....unluckily, they did nothing for my pain :p
lidoderm sucked for my back pain but my dr said they are for more surface pain bc the lidocaine can only get in so deep and i had a full spinal fusion and it probably would reach where the pain was.

i have to wonder what classifies as surface pain....i have surface pain, but the worst of my pain is deep beneath the surface....i saw a post where someone said they loved the lidoderm patches, so i had to ask.....

well i had bronchitis and i had pain below my ribcage in the area of my liver or kidney from coughing and my ribcage would stab down to stretch the muscle or something and i put one there and it help pretty well.

Is this similar to Neurontin (Gabapentin?)

I am prescribed 1mg clonazepam a day, and 1mg alprazolam. Also, have a script of propranolol for stage fright (speeches.)

Do you think the doctor will prescribe this to me? Gabapentin seems to really help as a mood stabilizer, AND gives me some type of motivation.

I can understand the clonazepam and alprazolam but i have never heard of propranolol for stage fright Inderal is a non-selective beta blocker mainly used in the treatment of hypertension. It was the first successful beta blocker developed. but since this usere is an exblue lighter any suggestions from the gallery...

The lidocaine patches are absolutely amazing for me... I have nerve pain in my leg and it gets really sharp and electric. When I put the patches on that area, usually it completely numbs that area drastically reducing my pain. When the area of the severe pain is limited to what 3-4 patches can cover, I can drastically reduce my pain. If the worst pain can be covered by patches, but I have a lot of pain elsewhere, it can help a bit but if the pain is severe and more widespread, putting patches on one area does not do anything to the aggregate number of pain I am in at the time... so I would say they have their place.

I don't see them helping non-neuropathic pain too much because the source is generally too deep, but they help tremendously for my nerve pain. I have been thinking a lot about nerve blocks with local anesthetics as well because I respond so well to the patches. I'm still thinking about it though.

well since i still have some left and refills for 10 more boxes (2 each refill) i had a bone graph and i have tingling sensation and pins and needles in my right leg should i put the patch where they cut part of my hip off? or on my leg?

I would go for both! They told me to put them at the source of the pain (my low back) as well as down my leg where I have pain... where I have the pins and needles sensations as well as other dysesthesias.

If you have access to so many of the patches, I say try everything and see what works. Also they say no more than 3 patches at a time for no more than 12 hours (followed by abstinence for at least 12 hours). I read about placing 3 lidocaine patches on for 24 hours and the peak plasma concentrations only being 1/10 the amount of lidocaine used for antiarrythmic purposes. I asked a pharmacist and they told me that the only reason for the restriction is to avoid tolerance. I wear 3-4 patches regularly for 24+ hours and I just make sure that I always take 1-3 days off after doing so and about 18 months in I notice no tolerance to its analgesic/anesthetic effects. I've also used 6 patches at a time when I needed to do a lot of walking. I used to only use them after the pain got bad but I find them very useful prophylactically so I put them on before I need to work or otherwise walk a lot.

Can someone else verify Lycria/Pregabalins use to come down from stimulants???

yes i can. ive been on lyrica for years. and used it many a time to combats comedowns off just about everything. even itself, lol.

^ Well I certainly hope not. i've been taking it off and on for at least 2 years now. i don't feel any more fucked up than usual.

Then again I'm probably not the best one to test stuff on as I usually have a myriad of drugs in my system all the time.%)

here in Toronto they are always advertising for people to go into research trials and they won't take me because the study would be no good. They wouldn't be able to tell whats doing what LOL

I even got turned down by one that wanted street drug abusers....too much stuff.

Propranolol is widely used for stage fright. blocks the physical effects of being nervous.

^ They really do work. I've successfully used them for public speaking before. Better than benzos because you don't have to worry about impairment.

i have been on gabapentin for about 4 months and have never considered upping my dose....i take 300mgs./2xday.....once at night and midday.....i have been out of my ambien for too long, so i took 600 mgs of gabapentin at bedtime lastnight....wow....it really did remind me of a benzo without the hangover....i slept really well and felt quite nice this morning ;)

Really wish insurance covered this drug. For me, strangely, gabapentin doesn't seem to work on my nerve pain even at the max dose. In fact I get 460 300mg a month under insurance but have been denied 3times on appeal to use lyrica for nerve pain. Lyrica actually seems to help too. Sadly the only other thing that works is opiate painkillers. Apparently statistically opiates only reduce nerve pain by 30%, about the same as gabapentin. In my case, it only seems gabapentin is placebo effect / doesn't do much of anything. Lyrica is like 25% probably more on higher (and more expensive) doses. Painkillers are more like 75% but because of my age... fuck the system. What woks I can't afford or have to go outside insurance to find a prescribing doctor. Also incredibly expensive, more so than even fight club... Lyrica definitely is a good drug. Hopefully someday doctors will get me something of the like. It's their fault for butchering the surgery after all...

wouldn't mind that. I wake up pretty every morning feeling like I'm at the bottom of a swimming pool. I can literally sleep for 12+ hours. I take 30mgs Diazepam (val) a day

I love preggies!

They're addictive, so I try to keep it down to once or twice a week (or any time I'm in pain).

If I feel like getting wasted (rare), I'll take 300mg of pregabalin and drink a single beer or a mixed drink. Preggies plus two or more drinks, and I'm stumbling around like Depp in "Fear and Loathing", right after inhaling the ether.

Aldousage

I was given Lyrica in May to try and combat pain. The pain isn't nerve related, so the Lyrica didn't touch it

I never paid a dime for it. My doctor just game me a shit ton of sample bottles. Still have all of them too, just sitting in my medicine cabinet at home

Maybe they would be nice on the days I get anxious

As far as the real benefit goes however, it hasn't really been documented yet AFAIK. And it's this: At least for me, pregabalin (even a low-moderate dose) will bring me down off a stimulant high within 15-20 minutes. I mean all the way to baseline, and even below if too much of the stuff is taken! It's literally like tossing water onto a fire.

This has *sort of* been documented (i.e. everyone knows it 'damps' neuronal overactivity) but I'm not sure how many people realize that it isn't damping in the normal sense of "pushing against" anxiety or overstimulation. Given the right dose, there's no overactivity there at all anymore. It's *gone*.

a question raises in my mind. i admit have not read the thread so don t flame if the answer is there, but i have excuse i am on lyrica right now :D

currently i am prescribed dex-amphetamin 3x 5mg and pregabalin 2x 75mg. basicly you are right in your description. the effects of lyrica are dominant, which i logical my body is well adjusted to the amphetamin, don t notice this at all. and the lyrica i am taking for second day.

but in the long run when i am adjusted to it will my add med do anything. or will it be like i am flushing them in the toilet. that how it feels right now. clumsy drowsy in a peculiar way akin to ghb IMO. and my add is back full throttle but i don t mind cause i feel good, again in a very peculiar way.

nope

Can someone else verify Lycria/Pregabalins use to come down from stimulants???

but it nullified the effect of the dex-amphetamin i am on, makin me hardcore add again.

"WHERE ARE MY KEYS! ..... eh in your hand darling"

so i did read thru the whole thread this time, anybody on ad(h)d meds and pregabalin/lyrica prescribed or selfmedicating. tell me about it does or doesn t it work! does the lyrica cancel out the effects or not?
