The wonders of Pregabalin...

I get my lyrica script filled at wal-greens and and on my receipt it says the reatil for #120 75mg pills is $313.99 american. Thankfully I have good medication coverage so I pay $30/month. I first tried gabapentin (neurontin) and it worked well but I found the lyrica to be more effective and worth the $15 more per month I pay. If I ever lost my insurance I would definitely switch back to neurontin

60 75mg capsules are $25.00 at my walgreens at least, i don't think is posting prices considering it's a legal venue.

use your brain. You have insurance, that's why it's that price. That's practically the price of an individual tablet sans insurance, ffs.

Are you in the US? If so, are you sure he didn't give you gabapentin? It is prescribed for neuropathic pain and has side-label uses for anxiety and mood-stabilization.

He's the doctor- he can prescribe it for any fucking thing he wants as long as he has a good reason.

Lyrica can be prescribed for the same things Neurontin can.

For some reason, Lyrica makes me apprehensive. When I heard it was used to treat fibromyalgia, a disease with no known cause, cure or even treatment, I was skeptical. My fear is that it's another Vioxx, Fen-Phen or Thalidomide that just hasn't shown its ugly side yet. Call it an irrational fear, but until more is known, I don't plan on doing any high doses of the stuff. It's hard to trust big pharma, especially when a drug is new to the market and has that huge push behind it, which is usually followed by a prescibing frenzy and then the side effects begin to emerge after it's too late.

(Maybe there's some huge wealth of knowledge on pregabalin out there already...if so, ignore the post.)

There's absolutely no reason to suspect it's like any of those drugs. Vioxx isn't nearly as dangerous as the media made it sound- it can be used safely in carefully screened patients. The problems it causes are just like the problems every drug in its class cause, they just happen to be a bit worse.

Thalidomide is obviously horridly teratogenic, but only for humans (and possibly a few other primate species), and again, there's nothing to suspect it shares any of these features. It's still probably best not to use any drugs during pregnancy.

Fen-Phen (Pondimon)- phentermine and fenfluramine are both stimulants. Worse, fenfluramine is a 5HTb agonist. It's now well known that 5HT2b agonists are going to wreak havoc on the heart. If people had done a little more research before they ate these pills they'd have been a lot better off. They could have learned about the 5HT2b thing if they had made the effort, and then they'd be alive. Or at least not have cardiac fibrosis.

Is it possible that there's some problem hidden within pregabalin? Possibly, but it just doesn't that likely. We know what the drug does fine enough, we just don't know if any of those things cause any problems. Knowing the other drugs that do the same things, it seems pretty unlikely though.

umm i said this before but if i could still get samples of it i would abuse the hell out of it. my best experience prom 2008 figured i would have an anxiety attack bc of this certain bitch that cheated on her bf with me and figured she would be there and start shit and probably get me jumped again i go in with a bottle of sample 75mg 14 capsule sample bottles two in one, upon pulling in and parking i swallow 10 of these the most i ever taken before was 6 at a time then as the night goes on i take more and more and more and end up with about 5 left i give my buddy 2 and i lose the bottle and when we start dancing hard by the first song i was winded and crawling on my knees i was sweating my ass off fearing od or dehydration from chewing and spitting alot so i go to consume about 5 of those miniture cans of sprite, closest thing to water i drive home hitting around 4-6 curbs stop at my gmas house to drop of my tux she dosent suspect im high again she is a vicodin addict and tried to get me thrown into rehab. i make it home wake up the next day high as hell and the high didnt go away for about 1 and half days after the last pill was consumed. best of all i feel as if makes me feel drunk and makes my body numb i think it is a very well alcohol substitute but to each his own

This shit sounds pretty awesome, tho I heard WDs are worse than what youd get from benzos.

I was recently scripted pregabalin for nerve pain from some surgery I had several months ago. I found it to do absolutely nothing for my pain and did not get any recreational benefit from it, either.

please be a little more specific....are you skeptical because fibro is a syndrome (there are thousands of syndromes...i'e...no known cause) or are you skeptical because of the pharmaceutical claims?

When I was looking for something to treat my generalized and social anxiety disorder, I heavily considered Lyrica a possible alternative to any benzo, which I was trying to avoid. But after reading people's experiences and the reported side effects, I decided that Pregabalin was not worth getting due to the possible side effects, which included weight gain, edema, memory impairment, clumsiness, and heavy drowsiness/lethargy...just to say a few. As it is now, my memory has been burnt out from all the anti-depressants and stimulants I have taken, so that side effect alone scared me away.

Is this similar to Neurontin (Gabapentin?)

I am prescribed 1mg clonazepam a day, and 1mg alprazolam. Also, have a script of propranolol for stage fright (speeches.)

Do you think the doctor will prescribe this to me? Gabapentin seems to really help as a mood stabilizer, AND gives me some type of motivation.

here in New York State, i would say MOST doctors will prescribe neurontin, im on myself 800mg 2x/daily...it has multi purposes...pain/anxiety...seizures.. i am on it for anxiety so i save money by going to a MD to get it, because of its multi uses so the pharmacy wont give me any shit for what exact reason im on it ans why im not following up with a psychiatrist, therefore insurance covers it...beware with no insurance i had to pay $180 for a month supply of 800mg tablets...you will be RXed neurontin with no problems at all...pregabalin, im not sure, but i dont like that stuff i felt like a zombie on it and my tongue and shit got like numb on it b4, when i took it once...

Thanks ^ Neurontin it is, in the meantime. Anyone know how much it costs w/o insurance (ie 600mg/day for a month.) Is there a generic?

neurontin without insurance is VERY EXPENSIVE. I had to pay $180 for a 30 day supply of 800mg tablets 2x a day..and they were generic ass tablets too. This is in NYS

what about gabapentin? that's my alternative so that insurance will pay for it....the price without insurance is $66.....

gabapentin and neurontin are the same exact thing. neurontin is just a brand name for gabapentin, either way generic or not, it will cost you alot of money without insurance, atleast in New York State

i'm not sure about you guys, but i think $66/month is fairly cheap considering the price of my other scripts.....i get 300 mg/ 120 ct every month.....my muscle relaxer normally cost $182/ month!

i am very lucky to have insurance....

i suppose that alprazolam is a much cheaper anxiety med, but my doc won't script a benzo.....:p

$66 is cheap... my 90 hydrocodone generic cost about that much while the proprietary Lyrica is $315, Celebrex is $134, Lidoderm patches are $494 and protonix are a bit over $200... those are the prices w/o insurance. I pay $15 for generic and $30 for names usually so ~$100 a month. When I did my 2007 taxes I saw that w/o insurance I would've paid over $10,000 in medication that year.

how do the lidoderm patches work for you?

celebrex is so expensive....when i first got a script, i had no insurance and they were $4 per pill!!! luckily, my doc gave me a shit ton of samples.....unluckily, they did nothing for my pain :p

it is a successor to gabapentin which has been in use since 1994
