The White Stripes

Eh, I used to hate on Meg White for her drumming, but you can't really argue that it doesn't fit the material. The White Stripes are, by and large, Jack's baby when you get right down to it. She was just along for the ride. The Raconteurs interested me for a hot minute, but they are just too fucking boring. I need to get around to checking some Dead Weather eventually.

That's the thing: I know you've always hated on Meg (I only opened this thread to see if you were in here slagging her off. For real :D). But Jack's other bands are shit. I wouldn't swap one Raconteurs song for the worst White Stripes song - the WS are just that much better. Plus, Meg adds a lot live - the chemistry between the two of them. Doesn't matter if she can't play, she's part of the best band that Jack White is in, and that has to be worth something.

GZero: I think the White Stripes are borrowing from the same sources as Led Zep, rather than being influenced directly by Zep, if you see what I mean....

I like the white stripes and the raconteurs.

I saw the raconteurs open up for Bob Dylan when they were new and they did put on a good show. I never heard their 2nd album.

I like the white stripes a lot. I don't really like the rac's or dead weather. I wish jack and meg would find some other talented musicians and make a legit band out of white stripes. They're good, don't get me wrong, but I think they can do a whole lot more with more people and their general direction/ideas.

^ I think the 2-piece band is the fundamental element behind the white stripes. If they started taking on a bunch of other musicians the result might not be too different from the Raconteurs/Dead Weather imo.

I wouldn't be so sure. Neither bands add meg white to the mix. Some people may not think of her the best musician, but there might be something about her that makes the band. There has to be. Either that, or the rest of Rac/DW don't mix well with jack.

very creative. its simple music at its best. any fans of them here?
