🗣️ General Discussion 🗣️ The Weather Thread

Fuck that, its only 15°C in my part of the UK, and I'm already sweating like a rancid pig 🐖
I'm handling heat pretty well I'd say. Cold is making me depressed & uncomfortable instantly though.

Walked around the town & along the beach for like 6h at noon & afternoon.
Felt like a western Hare Krishna freak.
I had the feeling I need to do more 'sports' to combat kratom withdrawal

Absolutely stunning today, spent the last few hours in the garden running back and forth inbetween chores.

Warm enough to be properly topless, been smoking joints and lifting weights in the garden.. taking a quick bath break and back out there to paint or play guitar under the watchful eye of Sol

Sorry Al, I'm still not having it. This is pandering to the mindset that 'you can be whoever you want to be'.

I honestly think you’re wide of the nark here. You absolutely cannot be whoever you want to be. I cannot be an astronaut. You cannot be a brain surgeon. Brenda cannot be a functional human being. Stupid Brenda :!

That's all very well from a positive thinking point of view, but it's not true.

I agree. It is definitely not true.

You are what you is, that's all there is to it. (Frank Zappa knew ;) )

And therein lies the precise point. You are who you are. Even if your genitals disagree.

The latter can be fixed, the former can never be altered.

That aside, in weather news… was farkin’ glorious today! Wore my light hoodie rather than my rain coat for the first time this year. Honestly felt like early summer rather than early-Spring. And it’s set to get warmer 8o

I believe you've actually agreed with me there Shambo

But the fact of the matter is, there is a greater chance of you becoming an astronaut than a woman. Even if you call yourself Brenda... 😃

Anyway, that's all I'm saying on this, the weather is far too nice for heavy shit. However, the weekend is nigh, so it's bound to start blowing a gale and pissing it down by tomorrow. :\

Why is it that nearly every year I've tried to grow auto flowers outside, the weather has been shit?

But when I don't bother, it's fuckin glorious.

Didn't bother last year, and the weather was perfect. The year before, the crop was shite.

Just my bloody luck.

However, i still have some seeds, so it's not too late to germinate... ;)

I'm unsure whether to bother with growing just a small crop of poppies this year. I'll just do a few in some big tubs, rather than have single plants in their own tubs aswell, if I do go ahead this year.

Although I have what should be seeds for the very best strains, for some reason they just did not do the business when I tried growing and consuming some of them a couple of years ago. They certainly bled a lot of raw opium though.

The neighbours that face my rear yard and sunny south facing window, must have seen me engrossed in my hobby of germinating the seedlings on that window, the last time I grew them, 2 years ago.

The daughter of the house actually came round to knock on my door. I didn't answer to find out what she wanted, she was probably just being nosy. Or maybe she was going to tell me that they knew exactly what I was doing. I'm really not sure.

And the weed smoking neighbours next door were the first ones to 100% certainly with no shadow of a doubt, know exactly what I was doing. They weren't quiet about their comments and observations.

No one called the cops, or at least I never got a visit. The weed smokers certainly would't have done, what with being weed smokers and all.

Growing poppies is not illegal anyway, but if the highly churchy puritanical neighbour that I have on the other side, or any of her many visitors ever notice and figure it out, the whole street will probably know, as she knows everyone and doesn't half gossip and rabbit on about everyone's business.

Plus my mother is visiting this summer, possibly just at the time all the poppys might be right at the podding stage.

Also I have an online source for really good and strong pods anyway, and just getting them mailed over is altogether much more discrete and low key.

I just enjoy the process of growing them though, but I get very obsessive about getting everything exactly right.

It's a huge drain on my time. Time I could spend doing other things. I dunno, I may still just try a few, but try not to fuss and faff too much, and see what comes of it.

If I start them in those humidity controlled seedling trays on my south facing sunny window sill, the seeds will germinate within a few days, and be ready for transplanting outdoors within a couple of weeks.

(I've just treated all of the soil and pots in my back yard with anti-slug nematodes, which will very effectively eliminate nearly all slugs for a few months, and stop my other non narcotic plants being devoured. The nematodes certainly work, so having already bought and applied them for other reasons, is certainly one quite big factor that adds a plus to the reasons to try again this year. Slugs love devouring young fresh poppy saplings, the bastards!)

I'm a little late, but there is still enough time for the poppys to reach maturity just around the time of the maximum sunlight of the summer solstice. If i get on it, like tomorrow. If I can be arsed.

Edit: I've just remembered that you're advised to keep the seeds in the fridge for at least 2 weeks before sowing them. Presumably because it makes them 'think' they've just come out of winter and it's now spring or something. Christ there must be a better way of wording that, but I cba right now. :roll eyes:

Anyway, I would have to do that, or risk many of the seeds failing to germinate. And that delay will make me very late starting. I do have a fast growing strain, they seem to grow and mature twice as quick as standard poppies, but they were the ones that didn't seem to "work" when I tried them in poppy teas, a couple of years ago.

I know It's not a big deal if I do or don't, but I'm just thinking out loud really. Maybe there'll be more comments or suggestions, some people may even be interested in my inane wafflings.

Be fruitful and multiply! Going for blueberries, myself. Although a field of poppies is definitely on my bucket list.

Yeah it's a good idea to try to grow these expensive superfoods. But it's challenging with a steep learning curve, to keep all the grubs and parasites at bay. The chemical pesticides do help to rid the bugs, but IIRC they are toxic. So you could potentially end up with no antioxidants and just be consuming toxins.

Unfortunately all of the organic solutions I've read about just don't seem effective enough, in my experience so far.

Basically the previous owners had a few strawberry plants, and they did well. And it was so disappointing to pick nice ripe strawbs at their ideal stage, only to see them loaded with tiny white worm like things inside. Or they'd just all get devoured from the outside, presumably by things like slugs. I don't have a greenhouse, or room for one, but I guess I could get a mini one, and that might help. Or maybe picking them before they ripen might do the trick, although I have sometimes bought unripe stawbs from the supermarkets, and they did not ripen to their fullness, once detached from the plant.

I'd probably try to grow blueberries, grapes, and strawberries, as they are all so expensive, that you could probably save loads of money by home growing.

The Sun seems to want to go out on a Date ... and take us Out !!!! 🔥
Damn BB. It's Hot now.
We had a mini heatwave for around 4 hours on Friday, the mercury was reading 15
Planned to sit outside after work but by that time it was to cold
At least spring has arrived (hopefully)
I suppose I'm lucky to live somewhere with 4 actuall seasons but winter gets really depressing

I'm scared. lol. Thank you for Posting. and support. ☀️

I've never heard of the latter, but have heard the former mentioned quite a lot.

Tbh I had to look it up to refresh my memory and to remind myself exactly what it refers to:

El Niño is a climate phenomenon characterized by the warming of ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean, which can disrupt global weather patterns. It typically occurs every two to seven years and can lead to significant changes in rainfall, temperature, and storm activity around the world.

Climate.gov Wikipedia

This is on top of the 'man made' global warming caused by carbon dioxide emissions:

The Earth's climate is further out of balance than at any time in recorded history, the UN's weather agency has warned.

The World Meteorological Organization says that our planet is gaining much more heat energy than it can release, driven by emissions of warming gases such as carbon dioxide.

This record "energy imbalance" heated the ocean to new heights last year and continued to melt our planet's ice caps.

And scientists fear that a natural warming phase called El Niño – expected to begin later this year - could soon bring further heat records.

In response to the report, UN Secretary General António Guterres reiterated his call for countries to move away from fossil fuels to renewable energy to "deliver climate security, energy security and national security".

"Planet Earth is being pushed beyond its limits. Every key climate indicator is flashing red," he warned, in a typically punchy video address.

The last 11 years were the Earth's 11 warmest years in records stretching back to 1850, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) says.

In 2025, global average air temperatures were about 1.43C above those of "pre-industrial" times - before humans started burning large amounts of fossil fuels.
A temporary cooling from the natural La Niña weather pattern meant that 2025 was not quite as hot as 2024, which was boosted by the opposite El Niño phase.

Line graph showing annual global average air temperature between 1850 and 2025. There is some fluctuation from year to year, but the trend since around the year 1970 has been consistently upwards. The last few years are far above anything seen since records began.

So basically it seems that La Niña is the opposite of El Niño.

Interesting. That's a pretty significant thing to keep an eye on.

Yeah it makes sense that it's probably not the sun heating up (if people think that) but more the atmosphere thinning.

Also less significant but still interesting, the world is slowly spinning faster. Like very very tiny amounts, but. And if you think about it, we have 24 time zones for each hour, and the world is about 24,000 miles across the equator, so we are really spinning at 1k MPH at all times (1,609 KPM)

^^^^^^

It could be many things. Equinox wobbles. Future shifts long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can

be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. Unless there could be weather tech or weather

weaponry as well.

A solstice is the time when the Sun reaches its most northerly or southerly excursion relative to the celestial equator on the

celestial sphere. Happy Spring ! =D

<3🌿

Bye. ;)
