The watches discussion thread

The last watch I wore was a Timex.

I was about 12 or 13, Don't like wearing them. I did like that watch though. Cost me twenty Irish pounds from Argos. That's about eighteen sterling. Lasted until I was 15, two new bands and then the front just fell off it. I used wear it playing basketball, football, cycling(and crashing) and for everything else too. So I wasn't surprised it broke apart.

I had a cheap one that I used when I ran competively - until I was 20 or so- but never felt like I need one. Time is on my mobile anyhow, plus I have a good sense of time, down to within ten minutes usually

i was the first kid at school to get a digital watch too (in 1979!), i wish i still had it! i think it would have been a Texas Instruments. people were always asking me for the time so i would press the button to see the time or date appear in glowing red letters.

Like bollocks it was, you got it from the box of Rice Crispies.

I'm a huge fan of Paul Frank watches. I've got these so far. I really dig the smart patrol line : )

I've got another that I can't find a picture for, but I actually don't even wear that one because its a little to big for me.

also, somewhere in our family (cletus?) there's a Sinclair Watch, which was one of, if not THE first digital watches to go on the market:

No, definitely not. I always assumed you had this in your collection from years ago from our old man. It still worked as far as I know & I'm more than sure you have it somewhere.

uh-uh, i've just moved house and i would definitely know if i had it. must be up in mum's loft somewhere (which somewhat resembles the warehouse at the end of Raider's of the Lost Ark, for anyone still reading. ;))

btw spade, keep your crap banter to EADD, there's a good chap.

I never really paid attention to watches until my mom gave me an old Rolex of hers. It has her initials in it and everything, so it means a lot. Unfortunately I left it at a UFC party at a marine's house and figured I had left it in Hilton Head or somewhere else (I didn't even think about the party but looking back I left it on the table because someone was looking at it and I had had a few...). Anyway, I had even called local pawn shops (there's only about 100 of them here... it took all day) to see if any of them had anything like that and all said "no." Last week I got an e-mail from said marine's wife and she had been looking for the owner for the past month and was about to give up and get rid of it (I would have waaaay before that point, the thing is still worth A LOT, esp. because they don't make this kind anymore or something). No one put two and two together because the initials didn't match up to mine but I was the only female out of about 15 that were there who hadn't been contacted yet. Anyway, I got it back last Fri. I think it was...

I was elated because I just had $810 stolen and it was money I had saved up to take care of some car issues/tickets. It delayed my being able to drive my car for months.. I know who stole it too but I had no proof (a workman for the last complex i lived in; who else would've had the key..?). Anyway, I have been getting shit a lot on lately by people fucking me over so this was a huge surprise.

Dunno why I just added all that. I'm bored.

By the way, I like Timex watches a lot. I've always liked it when men wear watches too. I dated a guy who had probably five different nice watches and I always thought that was pretty awesome. I only have my one and then a Roxy watch or something like that, and I never really wear either of them. Now I'm scared to wear the Rolex at all :P On another note, thank god my mom didn't give it to me until this year because I would've pawned it in a heartbeat just a few years back... Ugh.

i love timex indiglo watches. they are inexpensive and i can read the time in any conditions - the indiglo is a boon in a dark club :)

here's mine:

i love the elegant simplicity of the face.

broken image link there, ali... there's a superfluous slash and something else wrong with it. let's see that watch, dammit! :)

well if it's working for the person that uploaded it, it *must* be OK, right? :D

still not working in FF or IE. imageshack is your friend. ;)

thanks BL... this reminds me.. gotta take my watch to the shop and have them look at it, figure out what's wrong with the bitch. I used to wear a watch EVERYDAY (like I am with hats now)

I have a TAG watch [link], I never wear it though. In fact I kinda hate wearing a watch it feels uncomfortable on my wrist. I will wear it very occasionally when I get dressed up.

I love a good watch. I'd rather have a nice watch than a nice car. A good watch will last you your whole life, so I can definitely justify spending more money on it.

I'd really like to get a patek phillippe watch if I could afford it.

I currently don't have a watch... my last one was broken by the police when they handcuffed me. :(

I've always gone for the cheap ones, providing they look reasonably nice. I've never really seen the point in having an expensive watch.

^^^generally i would agree on things like these (ie sunglasses, etc) but as a guy, having a good watch can definitely set off your wardrobe. i guess its like earrings with girls. a really good watch can make you feel either really sexy, super professional, or a mixture of both.

and besides, it doesnt have to be expensive for it to look nice. but definitely finding a watch that suits you is key.

I still buy Swatches, even though the quality is dire. I just like the designs really. You really do need to throw them out after a year or two as the straps tend to disintegrate. Then when the battery runs out, it's generally time to replace it with a brand new design.

I'm kinda keen on getting myself a vintage leather cuff watch, but it's nigh on impossible for me to find one I like that's affordable right now.

PS - I can see Ali's pic. :)

i really don't like to wear watches but some have been given as gifts ..

when i win the lottery one day, i am going to spend a LOT of money on shit i dont really need, especially watches.

back in my teen years, i loved the freaky styled storm london watches, but then i got sick of watch tan marks so used a mobile phone as a timepiece for 10+ years. a few years back i got a watch from the dad in law, the one he prepared twenty years or som earlier to give to his future son in law. it's a titoni airmaster and it's rotomatic so it winds itself when you wear it. the only problem is it stops if you don't wear it more than a day.

also now i can only wear it on my right wrist because of my tattoos.

*pics to follow*

i couldn't find the watch i wear daily until this morning - it's been lost for a week or two but i'm happy to have it back:

like the other timex, i love the elegant simplicity of the face. it's also extremely easy to read.
