I've never seen a thread about Timex watches, and I believe the quality, price, and superior indiglo lighting deserve some praise for consistency over the years. Last night I got a new one from Academy for $30, and everything from the band to the face give me the impression that I'll be sleeping, showering, and working in the factory while wearing this watch for many years to come. It shows the day, date, and digital clock with a second timer all on the same simple screen.

A while ago I decided to treat myself to a 200 dollar Seiko, and it lasted less than two years before the band broke. Since then I've gone back to Timex, the only watch that is cheap, excellent, and in most cases pretty sleek looking for what they are.

All hail Timex! Share your thoughts and experiences!

Good to see you CB! :)

I haven't worn a watch in probably 5 or 6 years. The last one I owned, and I still have it kicking around somewhere, was a 10 binary watch. Someday I'll shine it up, get a sexy new strap for it, and wear it out. Always got some fun looks for it, and it's a great conversation piece.

Dude, your band broke on your Seiko? Just replace the band! You could probably even get a genuine Seiko band, that entirely normal. Every watch I've had has been through a number of bands. Your Seiko will last decades and decades!

:)

Sort of related; I want a Casio Gshock.

The back light automatically comes on when you tilt it towards your face to read the time! :D

im a huge casio fan actually. very inexpensive, very classic. i had a black classic digital that i wore everywhere for almost two years. wore it to work, worked out in it, etc etc.

the watch itself is still good but about a week ago the band split so i couldnt wear it anymore. so i got a new one. and im still sticking with the classics. :) i should have it in about a week

sorry to derail. ;)

Watches are the top accessory for men. I feel naked without mine.

I love it. (Tissot PRC 200 black)

I wear this exact watch pretty much everyday.

In general, I like the watch; but I should have gone for silver. The black is fading after only 18 months.

NIXON - PLAYER rrp 400.00 aud for this one.

yes, a generic watch discussion thread would be great, i don't think there's a lot of mileage in just discussing Timexes. :\

anyway, i LOVE watches. i never leave the house without one and hate not knowing what time it is.

here are my three regulars:

watchesm.jpg

1. my old faithful Timberland with Indiglo backlight - which i now realise must indicate that it was made by Timex?

wiki said:
Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced through Kmart in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. The technology is comparable to the Illuminator technology used by Casio.

i must have had it for about 20 years, and i've just replaced the strap. it's still going strong and the leather strap means i can wear it to work - you're not allowed to wear watches with metal straps offshore in case they get caught on something.

2. a Longines L3 617 4 - snappy name! i bought this second hand a few years ago, for a few hundred pounds. swiss made quality and very discreet. i will have this watch for the rest of my life (unless it gets stolen :|).

3. a Seiko automatic, dunno what model. actually i don't know why i included it, cos i hardly ever wear it.

i also have a rather flashy gold-plated Bulova somewhere - that was also quite expensive, but i can't imagine ever wearing it again, unless it's for an 80s theme night or something. ;)

Dundee never got over the loss of the Timex Factory. As of 28th August 1993 no one in Dundee ever wore or bought a Timex watch again.

That is a nice watch! Proper decent watches ARE for life. With a bit of care they can look almost brand-new forever, as long as they have at least sapphire crystal for the face. I don't see myself ever getting rid of my Tissot (although I'll probably upgrade later on).

My girlfriend loves expensive designer handbags. She says watches can be the same thing, but for guys. I think she has a point.

I also have a Nixon Rotolog in brown wood which is more a fashion accessory than a watch, but it still gets worn occasionally. It's been clubbing and all sorts with me, and while it's expensive for what it is, it isn't great quality so it isn't wearing as well as my Tissot.

And a Skagen Titanium Mesh dress watch, which doesn't get much wear, unless I'm wanting something discreet to hide under a cuffed business shirt. It last got worn at my last interview (which, I got the job for, so maybe it's good luck.!)

im also a huge fan of inconspicuous. a pet peeve of mine is when the cuff of your shirt bunches against your watch because of how big it is.

ysrh - i totally dig your skagen because of its slim profile.

felix you have awesome taste in watches!!
aww thanks!

now let's blow that theory out of the water with a visit to 80s retro corner:

4. from my schooldays - a Casio SCIENTIFIC Calculator watch. very handy if you need to calculate logarithms while you're on the bus. ;) i was gutted when i lost one of the buttons.

5. the aforementioned Bulova. it wasn't really that expensive, but it was to me at the time.

6. a 'classier' Rotary. it's far too small and thin for my tastes nowadays, so it never gets worn.

also, somewhere in our family (cletus?) there's a Sinclair Watch, which was one of, if not THE first digital watches to go on the market:

i was the first kid at school to get a digital watch too (in 1979!), i wish i still had it! i think it would have been a Texas Instruments. people were always asking me for the time so i would press the button to see the time or date appear in glowing red letters.

i've probably got a few Swatches somewhere up in my mum's loft too. they were all the rage at the time, heh.

let's see some more, please! :)
