Television The Walking Dead

^ Yeah that was definitely ironic.

Anyway, this episode gets the batman seal of approval. A couple things I would have changed though. First, I'd have left Shane in that bus, let his fate remain ambiguous for awhile, perhaps emerging later on in all his antagonistic glory. Instead we are still left with the same character problem. Is Shane to be trusted? Does he have some small core of good intentions that will unexpectedly come to fruition? Or is the series stuck with the same borderline sociopath who constantly verges on developing his role in the series.
Also, I would like to see the group incorporated with some new characters from different parts of the country/world. It was really interesting when they came in contact with the two guys from Pennsylvania. It gave the zombie apocalypse the broader perspective that it had been lacking...And then Rick shot them both dead.

What was the deal with the two bodies lying on the floor in the schoolyard, and the whole "I don't see any bites, maybe they were scratched" discussion?

My guess...probably a big spoiler
NSFW:
The cdc scientist whispered in Rick's ear in the first season that they are all already infected. When they die they will all turn into zombies. Its not the bite that changes them, its the bite that kills them. Rick doesn't want the others to know because he doesn't want them to give up hope.

BIG SPOILER, I just reached this part in the comic so it's not just a prediction (then again, they don't follow the comic very well.... but probably will happen.

^ You sure you haven't read the comics? ;)

I'm on book 5. I didnt mean to imply i was predicting the future of the show. More like putting the pieces together with what the cdc guy could have told Rick. I remember you saying that you've read the books already so i thought i would clarify. The comics have been so much better than the show so far. For a zombie show focused on the characters it feels like they have done a piss poor job of developing most of them.

yeah, I think you guys are right about the core meaning of that "scratches" convo :)

last episode was very good. the last two have been great. I'm glad to see things picking up. I can't wait to see how Shane is dealt with, which he no doubt will be dealt with (in some form or another), by the end of this season

and I'm off soon to pick up the newest issue installment of TWD. I understand the books, or "trade paper backs" in the parlance of our times, are more attractive to those who don't usually read comics, but I don't understand how you guys can wait a MONTH to read this book. of course, it's give-and-take, because you do get 6 whole issues AT ONCE

every Wednesday new comics come in the shop. there really is a thin red line to being a salacious comic book nerd and a salacious drug user!

plus, I keep my comics in pristine condition. TWD #1 is up to around $300 - $500 (depending on condition) last I checked. but still, no way I would sell ANY of my comics

fuck, very good show, i was so stoned when i watching it i almost i had to stop when the zombies where busting into the car and tearing their face up on the glass

I'll be done with it before I know it. They REALLY stepped up the action about mid-way through the first 48. :)

Is T-Dog as insignificant in the comics as he is in the show? The character hasn't made a contribution since the rooftop in season one. He's starting to remind me of the recurring extras on Lost, who had to lumber around silently in the background season after season after season.

--which actually doesn't sound that bad if you got to live in Maui for five years getting paid to stand silently in front of cameras

I've given up on this show. The first season was unbelievably good. Season 2? Bullshit. It's full of drama, and weak character development. I watch the show for the zombies, and clearly it's not being written for that. I wish it had 500% more action, cause frankly I get fed up when it's all silly bullshit like drama. I really gave season 2 a chance, but it's over for me. What a waste of a good series.

The second season is what you get when your fire a genius like Frank Darabont because of his desire to maintain the quality of the show.

I was wondering that as well...I had damn near forgotten he was even a member of the group. That said, I thought the last episode was the best of the season. And not to spoil anything for anyone that hasn't seen yesterday's episode, BUT JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, JUST RIP OUT MY HEART WHY DON'T YOU? #allthefeelings

T-Dog isn't in the comics, he seems to be their replacement for a hulking ex-nfl player, with them trying to appeal to the streets yo. Epic fail of a character

That makes a lot of sense. I hadn't heard anything about this before, but I had long decided that this season had been dropped down from A-level to B-level budgeting.

Reading this article takes it a bit further...

I thought this part was particularly funny...

"Squabbles over budget were one reported reason Darabont was booted, though AMC has assured viewers wouldn’t really notice a qualitative difference. After all, it’s not like season 2 has taken place entirely on a freakin’ farm or anything … right?"

It makes me feel not so bad for pointing out that last night's episode followed a now very familiar formula of 99% show of cyclical talking on a monotone farm set, and 1% of something actually happening.

I'm really not a hater, I swear.
