the wakeup call

all it takes
is one second too long
one warning too late
one pill too many
one line too large
to lose it all
it's a wakeup call
to all of us
because it could have very well been
any one of us
it still can be
terrifying
always thinking
"it will never happen to me"
did you think he thought the same thing?
no one WANTS this to happen
but sometimes, sadly, it just does
but where to start?
what to say?
its been a sad sad day
to his family and friends
to those who only knew him as a name and a few words
or to those who did not know him at all
I am sorry for the loss
it still doesn't seem real
I wish it weren't
but it's a wakeup call
watch yourself
let this loss become an example
to all of us
so take a minute with me
hang your head down
be silent
and just think it over in your head
how many times could this have been you?
please don't let this become a pattern
please don't let this hit closer to home
if it hasn't already
watch yourself
we don't need to lose more in our family
because this loss
was one too many.
it's a wakeup call
please take heed
use wisely, my friends
wisely indeed.

a very close and dear friend was nearly taken away in similar circumstances a month ago. reading your piece mella, just made me even more greatfull that he's still here. thankyou, and my heart goes out to you.

I never met Quiksilver,maybe replyed to a post or two, but I hope that wherever he is he has found peace. Also, my thoughts go out to his family, friends, and all that knew him. Rest in Peace.

Thanks so much mel. that brought tears to my eyes. it just made me think of so much. all of this has. it sucks so bad when bad things have to happen to make you realize somethings, ya know? my heart goes out to everyone here...those who knew him, those who did not, and especially to ryan.
i'm going to send this to some of my friends if that's cool with you mel.

Just to let you know after Ryan Haight's(Quiksilver) funneral we went back to my friends house and had a little ceremony of our for him. We burnt a couple of of glow sticks in his honor and i read that poem. I think that it was beautiful. Also, one of my other friends had a poem project for school and she picked you're poem to do her project on. Thank you for you beautiful words.

when a leaf dies it falls,
falls to the ground,
to be whisked back,
up by the wind around.
taken to a place far from it's home,
with others the same,
it is never alone,
so when all the trees fall,
and the wind blows the leaves,
we can all be together,
wherever it be.

Good post, as these kind always are, if only as constant reminders that we are mortal and that the price paid for our good time now can be very great in the future. So be careful out there all.
