Supposedly, some IV heroin users insist there is a special "trick" to end withdrawal symptoms after 2 1/2 to 3 days. The rumor is that withdrawal symptoms will cease completely and not return if the addict injects a small amount of heroin a few days after going into complete detox. Considering the third, fourth, and fifth days of withdrawal are definitely the most unpleasant, followed by an exhausting and dreadful week or two of slow recovery, this sounds FAR too good to be true. :|

I have been a pretty consistant user for about 2 years now, and I haven't had the opportunity to test this theory. I have always assumed it to be bullshit. I know several people that have mentioned this so-called 'trick,' and I was wondering if there's maybe something to it, or if cold-turkey-in-the-basement is the only option other than pills such as methadone or suboxone?

That's "the trick" your mind plays on you; thinking one last dose of heroin's going to take all those withdrawal symptoms away.

If that were true, you wouldn't have ended up in withdrawal in the first place.

Sorry, but other than slow and steady tapering off of heroin, or ORT with methadone or buprenorphine, there is no "trick" to getting rid of the withdrawal symptoms.

I'm going to go ahead and close this now. Your intuition is correct, it is bullshit. At least you know you have good intuition. :)
