On new years eve i attended my first rave, rolled balls and had the most fun i have had in a long time. I loved it and started going to parties nearly every weekend i could provided money and time off work.... Some times i roll, other times i smoke and/or drink, and others i indulge in various other mind warping chemicals, and some of the time i rave sober.

I have started to notice that i have been losing weight, only a few months after starting this my pants that used to be a little bit small in the waist are now pretty much falling off.... I have noticeably less fat on me, but i have always been on the borderline underweight side....

If you ever look at the people who go to a lot of raves there are very few overweight ones. In ways it makes a lot of sense that one would lose a decent amount of weight raving frequently, dancing for hours with the only thing that has been in your stomach all night has been water and drugs. And the general habit of feeling kind of shitty the next day so you avoid eating much....

With my metabolism if i go any decent period without much food i lose weight fast, throw in a lot of moving around and staying up all night without food and i generally drop a few pounds....

has anyone else noticed this? anyone know any decent high calorie/carb foods that would help counteract this? i have been trying to eat more to compensate lately but gaining weight has always been difficult for me.

If you're raving to the point that you're losing weight I suggest cutting back on the extra curricular activities.

I typically eat a pretty healthy meal about 6-8 hours prior to engaging in an all nighter like a rave. A meal full of fresh fruit, pasta or some other good whole grain like brown rice and lots of liquid.

moving over to Healthy Living, maybe you'll get some more help there.

mods please feel free to send back if this is not Healthy Living material! :)

I would suggest eating a high protein meal before heading out to the party. Personally I would eat this like an hour or two before the party because i weight train quite frequently and do not want to lose my hard earned muscle. If at all possibly try sneaking in a protein bar or if they have food at the party then eat some of it. Also when you get home from the party have a protein shake with some essential fatty acids and some glutamine. This will help ALOT, especially when you cant down any solid food.

Now not everybody can eat when they are rolling but the more food you can get into yourself the better, especially if you have a high metabolism and love to dance your ass all nite :)

While it may be tough to eat during/after a rave, there is nothing quite as transcendent as ice cold melon slices at 3:30 in the morning. Some of the better parties that I've been to, volunteers would circulate around the party with fruit, nuts, chocolate, and so on. At a small party once, someone was actually passing around a platter of awesome rustic bread with olive oil and balsamic.

But really make an effort to get some calories into you at some point during the night. Even a big glass of fruit juice (or a light smoothie, something with a bit of protein) will help with the recovery. This past weekend I went to my first party in ages, and I brought apples and cheese for afterwards. Granted, my friends and I went sober as we were 3 hours away from home, but it was still awesome to be slicing smoked gouda and apples while barelling down the highway. And it made the drive much safer as we all had a bit more energy.

if I travel to camp in the woods for a few days and blast my head with goa and acid then I always make sure to bring lots of tuna fish, whey, water, granola, bananas, gatorade powder.

I usually go to bush raves with a good stock of food and clean water, keep the drug taking to a minimum and dance and spin staff a lot... so raving has been good for my health! I'm sure I wouldn't have the tummy I have if it weren't for contact juggling and staff spinning.
