The Slippery Slope of Synthetics

Hello all, my name is Renae.
I've signed up for Bluelight to spread awareness about research chemicals and hopefully find like-minded individuals who can help me with personal research for a book I'm writing. But first, some backstory:
When I was 19 I started smoking herbal incenses from sex shops (common in Australia). What started as seemingly harmless fun turned into a nasty habit until I woke up one morning and realised that I was addicted. All my friends bar my smoking partner had abandoned me, and the few people I told about my addiction to synthetic cannabinoids didn't believe me. The general consensus was that they were a laughable drug. I only just started to realise otherwise. Over eight months, I became worse. I smoked every single day, all-day if I wasn't working. I would smoke constantly, feeling down and fighting with my boyfriend when I had gone a few hours without any. I started to notice bad effects it was having on me; I developed temporary aphasia, dissociation, memory loss. And then it got worse. I would have periods where I honestly believed that I was going to die, as though my mind was being shocked repeatedly, or as though I was playing an online game on a shitty connection. I was experiencing real-life lag and it was the most terrifying experience I have ever gone through.
But I still didn't stop.
Fast-forward to now, and I managed to get away from the synths. I have been completely free of them for just over six months now. But I know other people who didn't manage to shake them.
So now, I'm writing a book. A personal project to tell my story and hopefully spread information about the different side-effects different compounds have. It's more difficult than I though considering I can't remember most of that period of time in my life.

Anyways! Hello again. I'll be floating around here for a while :)

Yeah, reading about it is scary stuff. And at least weed has the anti-psychoactive CBD to kind of even things out.
