^ Spelling and head?
Wow, it would be like a primary school spelling B except all the words sound like vowels

She is saying it should be a joke, therefore doesnt give a hoot about spelling therefore it is not ironic !!!!!

I was referring to NickyJ, since he was saying how important spelling was for himself, while misspelling the word definitely twice = irony. ;)

Is it shallow to turn someone down for a date because they are a terrible speller? I mean a really terrible speller?

If English skills were a prerequisite to a good partner there would be a lot of hot French girls being wasted out there... :(

And French maid costume retailers would be going out of business.

Being able to operate the dental floss dispenser is a far greater priority for me.... nothing less sexy than bleeding gums.

Oh and manky toe nails, I don't have a foot thing by any means but mushroom toes you can hit the road.....

I had a date last weekend with an industrial diver- one of those guys who spends a month off the shore under a diving bell in the Caspian, or Mediterranean for various mining/geographical companies. And hes spent a lot of time off the North West Coast near Dampier. Was a great evening- quite an intellectual fellow with a flair for story telling.

Having been nursing a broken heart lately, being aloof and drinking heaps to get to sleep at night isn't quite working out so Im doing the opposite and actually SOCIALISING. Its working- I have another date tonight. Not with the same guy as last weekend (hes totally platonic, like male friends should be!).

Date guy this weekend is HOT. I want some action.

I'm not sure where I said that poor spellers were unworthy, bad people or that they couldn't achieve anything in life.

Of course I know that there's more to a person that their ability to spell. I just personally find it a real turn off when someone makes a lot of spelling mistakes, and also that they haven't bothered to spell check their email before sending it to me.

I'm sure there are things that turn you off, but you don't necessarily think that those things make a person bad, or unworthy?

I share the same pet peeve. I was similarly turned off when exchanging letters with a girl I had a crush on in high school. But as long as the written language is not the predominant form of communication--so no MSN crap or god forbid, MSN spats with misspelling and bad grammar--I can deal with it.

I'll go one step further: I generally have problems dating people with Chinese dialect names (the superficial bastard in me has issues with their names rolling off my tongue, so either I feel uncomfortable calling their name, or I truncate them, neither of which might be viable options) or who don't speak English properly, properly being subjective I suppose.

Wouldn't see it as a shallow issue, there are more things to be shallow about. If I can dislike someone for any, and so many reasons, why not bad spelling and grammar? Don't need to justify what turns me off, or on for the the matter.

I've come to the conclusion that it is kind of shallow, but not any more shallow that many other turn-offs that are perfectly socially acceptable. Also I'd like to point out that it was really terrible spelling, e.g. "hurd" instead of "heard" etc.

Who cares if it's a shallow turn off in the first place?

I don't like girls with weird laughs, thats a major turn off for me. Why is that any different from saying "I'm turned off by fat chicks" or "I'm turned off by chicks that dont stimulate me mentally and read Proust".

Turn off is turn off and just because it's not a socially acceptable turn off doesn't make it any less valid.

I generally try not to be shallow because I think its a silly attitude to take and one which results in missing out on a lot of good things.
