The Short-Term Goals Thread

short term i wanna steadily keep increasing the amount of time i exercise each day while keeping my daily caloric intake under 1200 then focus on making the workouts more effective

I had to bump my diet up to 1500 (or deal with being tired as piss by nightfall) but it feels good to look back on what I posted three weeks ago and know I'm still on it. Another short-term goal I've had for the last few weeks has been reaching the recommended amount of push-ups and situps to get 100% on the U.S. Army Physical Fitness Test. Just reached the goal (still a bit over the time limit) and now I'm aiming for 200 pushups and situps with a lax time limit at first.

Short term goals are to lose some fat in my chest and gut and then replace with good lookin muscle.

Im not so sure where to begin, though.
Do it just start ripping and then drop the fat, or do I jog/walk the fat off, get skinnier, and then build

I think I'd like to keep the actual weight close, just lose fat and add muscle.

Shit..reading the OP, maybe those ^ would be long term goals.

Those, plus Id like to have a positive week. In a low point of life, still swinging downwards, wanna keep my chin up til the upswing of life comes back around.

short term goal for this week:

replace one meal a day with a veg+fruit juice
exercise every day for at least 30 min
no booze
no more than 1 cig per day (preferably 0)

No need to "replace" meals, hun. The juices are only going to spike your blood sugar, making you crash later and crave more carbohydrates.

Short-term goals for this week:

Recognize / reject foods I can't find in the wild. Easier said than done! (difficult)
One 12 hour fast (easy)
One sprinting session (medium)
One more weight lifting session (used a chair yesterday! Lol)
Walk a total of 3 hours this week (1/2 1 1/2 hours done)

Remember that belt now goes on third loop in instead of second loop!

a more longterm alternative to juices which include fibre is to blend/vitamise your fruit and veg, then freeze that into ice blocks

then i use about 6 frozen green blocks and some frozen berries and some freshly squeezed orange juice in a blender and its a treat

this for me can quite easily supplement my daily diet without spiking blood sugar + the crash etc

OT I want to quit cigarettes once and for all
and I need to get a job in a less fucked environment than the kitchen im currently at

Ohh I learned this quickly! I am not replacing food with juice, more like augmenting my diet with nutrient packed freshly juiced veggies and fruits, because I find it hard to digest a lot of the foods I eat cuz of what's going on with my stomach right now. It's actually helped a LOT and I feel like I lost weight already just because my normal acid-refluxy bloating has finally deflated to a comfortable level. That or laying off beer for a week or so ;)

So for example I'll make a big glass of juice (usually carrots, kale, celery, ginger, apples, pears, etc) and then I'll have some solid food with that containing protein like triscuits, cheese, hummus, and avocado. That meal right there is such a feel-good meal, I feel like I can conquer the world after! And my stomach doesnt feel like it's trying to kill me after I eat, because its not too heavy and easy to digest. Anything that doesnt require a lot of stomach acid to digest is my friend.

haha YESSS. this made me smile.

So I have been doing well with my exercise goal(an hour a day exercise DVDs and walking etc). not quite everyday but most days (not bothering with the shake weight as it sounds like it's pretty useless anyway) I will keep it up.

I'm not sure what my next health goal should be. I have a rule to maintain my weight between 47kg and 50kg (if I go above I restrict diet, if I drop below I'm allowed to eat fattening foods and bring it up) and I've been good with it for a while (It's a compromised goal weight range keeping me above the cut off weight for AN diagnosis while still being technically underweight) I'm not binging or starving anymore, like ever, eating reasonably healthily. Still a happy non-smoker. Drink sometimes, but not much (am lightweight also calories).Have got drug use down to 2 days per month, because when I do it more often I end up unhappy and when I try not to do it at all I still end up doing it 2 days per month anyway and have the added stress of being angry at myself for it. What else is there?

Oh! This sounds lovely. :)

I'm glad it's helping. Also, it's probably the beer making you bloated. Beer has a habit of doing that (beer bellies, anyone?).

It makes getting your vegetables much easier if you don't like the taste.

yea no shit right? I haven't drank at all for a few weeks and last night decided to treat myself to a few blue moons for the lunar event and today I feel HUGE omg. blue moon bloats worse than others I think, that damn wheat beer. y u so tasty?

I've decided my next short term health goal..
I think I have most everything in order and there is nothing else that needs addressing other than that I am still probably too obsessive over dieting/body/ and fear of woman (eww) ness... type things, bad wording.

I don't know what to do really, to work on this.. I googled and found this
Sandalwood essential oil can assist with the negative feelings associated with obssessive dieting. It allows you to surrender to divine will that will help with pure weight loss. It can stop obssessional attitudes and compulsions around food. Use the above meditation to change your focus.
from here http://www.essential-oil-goddess.com/sandalwood-essential-oil.html
Which sounds like ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT...

Anyone know any actual methods of addressing this issue... (I'm looking at you COTB after what you said about your success overcoming similar) Help plz?

Edit: Actually I don't think this is something one can just "do" like a workout dvd or the dishes. lol, what was I thinking, nevermind. I should just be happy I'm not sick anymore.

Short-term health-related goals... Hrm...

  • Stop smoking (started again for the umpteenth time 8))
  • Drop a few pounds and get to 120-125 (More of a long-term goal I guess, even though I haven't weighed myself in months so I could be close...)
  • Play Frisbee with the peanut every day for at least ten minutes (helps her health more so than mine)
  • Walk aforementioned dog at least once a week. Just around the block (0.7 miles) until she gets better on the leash. She has really come a long way.
  • Start snacking (Yes, start. Part of my weight problem is I wait too long to eat and am so hungry I eat far too much.) I've got to the point where I'm packing things to snack on during the work day, but I don't actually eat them... [Which reminds me that I forgot to bring that orange home. LOL, it'll be so gross by Tuesday.])

If you start a list with the one thing you can't seem to ever quit, how will you stay motivated to complete the goals that follow?

I'm not sure I understand completely but fibre is a good solution to the problem of obsessing over diet. Greatly increase the fibre content of your meals and you can feel just as full and satisfied with half the protein, fats and carbs (i.e. calories) that you are used to. It's easy to give it a test run, just look at what you were planning to eat for dinner, take half the "meat n potatoes" off the plate and add twice as much lettuce to make a salad for a side-dish. Add a good spoonful of olive oil to the salad too, it really adds mileage.

Thanks for advising. I eat a vegan diet, aside from the rare occasion when I cheat (sometimes if a non-vegan food item is lower in calories than available vegan option I give in to it. Also I have had weak moments and binge eaten absolute junk, though this hasn't happened for a long time now, only following bouts of starving which I don't do anymore) so I am getting a high fibre intake, I eat a lot of vegetables and fruit, I don't eat olive oil because I eat a different, (also healthful, moreso healthful) oil. I think paying such attention to nutrition has played a major part in my ability to recover from a prior eating disorder and related malnutrition. I just worry sometimes, when I realise how other people view food and weight and see that I actually am still very obsessed when I thought I was better :\
Nevermind though, it's probably not such a big deal.
