The Recipe Thread (EADD Version)

I'm guessing that mummy's little soldier probably won't have these ingredients or be capable of putting them together (or even finding them) if his mum does. :p

What should I make for dinner?

Sweet and sour chicken curry (sauce from a jar) and rice or frozen Pizza with some chopped red onion and red pepper added to it to make it a bit mor substantial??

No, I never have. Just the thought of it makes me feel sick. I was gradually having less and less meat with my meals until I just thought, "why bother?".

I don't eat fish anymore either. I suffer a huge amount of guilt when it comes to animal suffering as well. If I eat dairy it has to be free range, and all the products I use cannot be tested on animals. I've been like it for years, but I had an acid trip where I felt like an animal being led to the slaughter. Lets just say it was an eye opener. :|
If you eat any diary at all it leads to unnecessary calves.

The modern dairy cow has been bred to be so specialised for milk, rather than meat production, that male calves of the pure dairy breed are perceived by many farmers as not being worth rearing for meat. . Male calves - the unwanted by-products of the dairy industry - continue to be treated like disposable waste rather than as sentient beings. All too often, they are likely to face an early death. Government advice for killing calves on farm is that "a free bullet or shotgun are preferred methods".

There is an annual slaughter of more than 10 million unwanted male dairy calves in the U.S. and 600,000 male dairy calves in Britain

^Jesus.

I'm running out of things to eat.

A steady diet of mung beans should do the trick. :|

Two vegetable Patties. :|

I really need to cook something more substantial tomorrow. I think I might do the Moroccan pie thingy.

I made something the other day for first time in ages. Was basically a veg and bean casserole which I rustled up with what was left in the fridge / cupboards.

Ingredients:
Onion, garlic and any veg you have. (I used carrots, peppers, chillis, celery)
Veg or Chicken Stock.
Tinned Green Beans
Any tinned beans (I used a tin of Sainsburies mixed beans in chilli sauce, contained chilli beans, kidney beans, black eye beans etc)
Tinned Tomato's.
Soy Sauce (Optional)
Tobassco Sauce (Optional)
Parsley.

To create:
Heat some oil in pan on a medium heat..
Add veg and stir fry for around 5 mins.
Add tinned tomato's and stiry fry for another couple minutes.
Add stock.
Simmer for 10 mins.
Add green beans + mixed beans.
Bring to boil then simmer for 5 mins.
Once veg is cooked through add 2 tablespoon of Soy Sauce and a small drop of Tobassco.
Sprinkle with parsley and serve with rice / chips / potato's / whatever.

Does anybody know how easy/difficult it would be to make prawn toast? I love it from the chinese but I'd rather make my own so that it isn't deep fried.

prawn toast recipe

however i have tried shallow frying them and it turns out cack!! much better to deep fry and drain on kitchen roll.

i put prawns, spring onion, soy sauce, mirrin, teaspoon cornflour, egg and sometimes fresh chilli in a blender and wizz into a paste.

spread the paste onto pieces of bread, white is the best though a good granary can be interesting. sprinkle top with sesame seeds, quarter the bread and then fry sesame seed up for a few minutes. once brown take off and use kitchen roll to mop up excess oil.........YUMMY!!

Aw man, we don't have a deep fat fryer. My mum threw a little wobbly and put it in the bin.

The recipe looks pretty easy as well. Is it really not worth it to fry in a frying pan?

we don't have a deep fat fryer either, i use my wok and pour in a good glug of oil.

the only time i've used a frying pan they were terrible and didn't cook properly. i think you need the heat all round to make the bread crispy and the fish cooked.

Tried some Sweetcorn & Chilli soup other day as well which was very nice, haven't tried making it myself yet but definitely worth a shot.

That sounds nice actually, Spade.

It was just the other day when I was wondering what I could do with sweet potato. They're definitely no good for roasting.
